POP2 - PUTV 3D Models Showcase Progress & Tips

With POP2 is easy because you have greater distance to work with , with MINI I have 5cm to work with since the distance is best between 15-20 cm so I have very small capture window , any shift more than 5 cm in each direction will be too far or too close , and it can affect the model accuracy , it will also jump back and forth resulting on bad capturing of the frames .

I don’t have any issues using it with POP2 , but with MINI , I need more precise scenario since the capturing frame window is so little .

@Miamijerry , you see Gerald , it is the same in VR photography that I am doing for capturing full 360 degrees image , the camera lens need to be always in the same pivot when rotating and tilting while capturing images , so later when the frames are aligned it creates perfect accuracy . Scanning objects at once from the same pivot location will resulting in better frame alignment and accuracy , as they will be always in the same world center , no matter what position , more precise scanning and all professional high accuracy 3D scanners use this method.

I did tried to scan the object also with 30 degrees each frame only from the same world center with success without running constantly the turntable as we were talking about early . No issues with tracking at all , great scans, less junk and additional data and faster processing time .
There is still great room for improvements .

I’m simply expressing my experience and, I think, the experience of other users who have been surprised by the learning curve, by the lack of complete documentation etc. My comments were asking you to see how other people might feel. I’m not telling you that you are doing the wrong thing, I’m simply telling you how I feel about my experience. And my experience is simply that I expect a finished product when I buy something (unless it is advertised as beta or experimental) and only finding out after buying it seems a bit unfair. You seem upset by my comments and I don’t really understand why. I am acknowledging that you are happy with this situation. If you have personal issues seeing comments that might highlight the effort you are putting in to help Revopoint, then you may want to re-examine your choice.

I certainly don’t have any problems with people who freely give their own time for the benefit of others. That kind of characteristic should be applauded. World would be a better place with more of such people.

Hi @MartinD ,

  1. We also created many materials to help users, including users’ manuals, scanning tips, and the YouTube channel.

  2. We have some very kind users like @PUTV - they can use our product very well and are willing to try their best to share their skills to help others get better scan results FOR FREE. Because of these users, the forum becomes a good place for all users to learn how to use the product better. I think many other users will be glad to have these professionals here.

As you said, “World would be a better place with more of such people.”

  1. As @Miamijerry said, “There are “Givers” and “Takers.” PUTV is certainly a Giver.” I hope you can at least respect his effort and not make this sharing skill topic go too far away from what it should be. Thank you.

To all the other users:

  1. This topic is only for sharing and discussing scanning skills. I totally understand if you want to complain about the product, but please create another new thread.
  2. I will remove the comments not related to this topic without notice in the future.
    Thank you for understanding.

Thanks, I think I am starting to understand.

So what is better when scanning 360 around the shoulders?
Maintain the same pivot point distance or a constant distance to the “Body”?

In your case the body is already in a perfect pivot point since you standing in a center of the turntable , the POP2 needs to remind 40cm from the scanned surface for best results in Body Mode so after scanning the head you will need to change the distance , if you keep POP2 40cm from the shoulders the distance to the neck and head will be greater than 40cm what can result in less details and greater noises . But as long it is between excellent and good I see no problem

Talking about YT-1000
I think I have an idea to show you it in practice when the pivot changes while rotating 360 degrees

hello, do you know if we will be able to buy the new “revopoint” turntable soon? Could we, as you do, set it to 60 seconds for one lap?

The new devices are still in production from what I know , and I did not had any chance yet to tests it out or have any exact specifications. They are designed specifically to work proper with the devices .

I suspect it will take around 2 months to have it produced with proper certificates and be ready for sale in August .

Since the new turntable will be controlled via Bluetooth I am expecting there will many additional settings to control it including speed and tilt functions .

ah OK I see, did revopoint give you a price order? thank you

I think it is too early for that , if that was the case you could already pledge it separately on KS as the Gimbal .
but it may be in the price range as the other tunable or maybe little more since it is specifically designed for use with the scanners and have control via bluetooth, and you really can’t find anything like that on the market . At least I did not found anything like that, and I am looking for it for quite some time now .

I created new Facebook page
You can visit my facebook Page at PUTV and send messages at Redirecting...

I got dimensions of the dual-axis turntable platform by asking on Revopoint official FB page : “Diameter 120mm x height 38mm” But those 38mm can’t be the entire height of the device and neither the thickness of the platform…

I was dissapointed when i read that…but we could still attatch the platform extender from the “portable turntable” (the smaller one).

the closest thing i could find was a 700€ Bluetooth single axis turntable from Artec:

https://www.artec3d.com/portable-3d-scanners/turntable

@J0sh that are almost the dimensions of the old POP2 turntable without the top plate , not possible the dual axis turntable height is 38mm , no way it could tilt at 30 degrees , someone made a mistake .

I will ask Revopoint tonight , I know the samples are not ready yet for testing .

Wow , you can get those for under $100 , not worthy , don’t even bother looking for , beside YT-1000 that I have $98 on Amazon , there is nothing else with 2 axis that could replace the Revo Dual Axis turntable .
YT-1000 can support 1kg and has remote . The cheaper ones has only 180 degrees rotations .

Heat sinks for SSDs have been installed for thermal protection

Yes…i told them about that dimensional error, but didn’t get a response :smiling_face_with_tear:

Well…you know Artec price tags. I’m not surprised about that

But i liked the way the turntable is synchronized with the software and is able to turn back to the point where the scanner lost track. It’s not really difficult to implement (if Revopoint hasn’t done it yet) having already Bluetooth connection.

That would be the way to go but know nothing yet about the exact specifications , this would be definitely a game changer.

I hope that doesn’t cause issues for you later.
