MINI- PUTV 3D Models Showcase Progress & Tips

Perhaps try one of these. They’re both a clear, matte finish.

Thanks Jeff but that is permanent spray , I am looking for a temporary matte scanning spray , MINI can scan metal if you block the shine but still everything out of stock . It would be the best solution for rings and coins , but can’t get hold on that for couple of months now , not even dental matte scanning spray to scan crowns .

New personal record in scanning single volume with MINI , last firmware and last software build with still in beta testing progress of the new pitch point distance of 0.01mm . The public build has 0.02mm at this moment .

The trick is to get very slightly over the Excellent indicator “Too near” but maybe 2cm at max ( only in the latest build )

It captured not only the single volume at 6mm , but also all the imperfections of it , since it was quick printed .

I am using black velvet as it absorb well the Blue laser light and is not visible to MINI ( not for IR)
and my Dual Axis Turntable at regular speed

Finally in stock !

The new ATTBLIME® μScan liquid used to the precise matting of very small reflective or transparent objects in the dental, jewelry or electronics sectors.
The liquid agent is applied to the areas to be digitized very precisely with the integrated brush and with a layer thickness of up to 3 µm. In contrast to their scanning sprays, there are no additional contaminated areas, the so-called “overspray”.

It is rice starch based so can be easy blown away with pressured air after scanning , I wonder if works better than Zinc oxide, we going to find out next week.

https://us.attblime.shop/product/attblime-µscan-liquid/?attribute_quantity-delivered=1+Can

BTW Attblime 3D spray did not interact with my coins,… zero oxidation of any metals or alloys after it vanished in 2 weeks. Everything still pretty shiny as before.
I did not tried yet the new liquid as it was out of stock for so long … can’t wait to try this one out.

Just one pass of the not so easy to scan very small rings that always gives me a trouble .
The 3D spray did clogged some of the details , so hopefully with the new liquid it gonna be better especially on the fine stones on top.

The last scan I used for that with the same accuracy and quality was $20K so I can’t complain …

Latest Android version is fixed … well
it worked great with MINI RGB… good point cloud and meshing results and also textures !
can’t complain !

You can also scan outdoors without issues as I scanned with outdoor light and it is sunny today , as long you are not in the sun , everything working fine …

Point Cloud

Mesh

Textures

Also keep the distance consistent if you want to have same quality of textures across your model, moving from Excellent to Good while scanning will produce less high-quality textures , the best are when you keep Excellent distance

Now I have the song “Black Velvet” running around in my head…thanx…LOL - If you don’t know that song - Black Velvet by Alannah Myles - YouTube - now it is in your head too MUAHAAHHAHAAHA

, I have always this song running in my head when I say “Black Velvet” College times !

I tested yesterday quickly how far I can go with the new MINI on maximum distance from the object , and it worked to 30cm around 11inches away with very smooth results , it can’t go much farther as the object can’t be visible if you do . so right now the distance I tested is from 9cm-30cm compared to the specifications of 10cm-20cm , and the pitch point distance 0.01mm so 4 times greater than specifications what is great .

I did not made full scans so here just one of the 30cm distance scan test I made on myself , pretty smooth compared to early versions , also scanned handheld , once I reached the forearm the tracking got lost since the opening scanning window is still too small at 30cm , but if someone wearing clothing it should be not an issue . I need to test out today with textures at 30cm distance. As you remember before the quality was noisy at that distance so I am very surprised this time .
I did not cared much about the distance indicator , I cared what I see on my preview screen .

I was also surprised the model size was small compared to scanning very small objects, I guess less fine details were captured at that distance , still detailed enough to be usable in my pipeline.

You can buy Titanium Dioxide R-213 that is food safe for making a finer spray of 2 µm. To guarantee size use a mesh sieve. Titanium Dioxide is used in toothpaste and other oral products and deamed safe by the FDA. I hope this helps.

Titanium Dioxide was removed from all 3D Sprays, it is not healthy for this kind of applications
Using it in food is a different story , handle the powder is another .
Data Sheets:
Respiratory Protection: If exposure limits are exceeded or irritation is experienced,
NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection should be worn. Positive-pressure supplied air
respirators may be required for high airborne contaminant concentrations. Respiratory protection must
be provided in accordance with current local regulations.
Skin Protection: Wear suitable protective clothing
Hand Protection: Wear protective gloves.
Environmental Exposure Controls: Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.
Eye Protection: Wear safety glasses with side shields (or goggles).

But Approved by FDA in food … but make sure you wearing gloves and protective glasses

I didn’t think of looking up the dust. I have a positive pressure respirator. I’ll use it from now on with it. Thanks.

Yeah be careful, you don’t want Aluminum oxide and silica dioxide in your eyes or lungs …

That’s metal in your lungs ! :joy:

I will forgive the ground water contamination, as we do it on a daily basis brushing our teeth…

I made some little RGB tests …

I could never scan this model in color , since Infrared did not liked resin or waxes … now no problem
Rendered after in Zbrush

I made also little of natural stuff to see if brown and green can be captured to some levels and it worked
Please take a note that the final results when you get your MINI RGB will be even better than you see right now , the software texture algorithms are still being WIP , and I am just testing the quality on the go …and it getting better and better each time . The details getting crispier with less artifacts what will make it very usable for me to create natural game assets in color , what I did not expected to be frank.
The final quality will also allow me to use the RGB data as a marker points for final merging in Revo Studio or CC ,especially for objects that are usually flat and hard to merge due to lack of features in the mesh , but I am working on that video tutorial for you.

Mesh-Textures generated

Base mesh at 15 cm , at that distance there is slightly less micro details than at 10cm

RGB color per vertex Meshed very sharp and great base to create your own textures from it in another program that supports RGB .

RGB color per vertex Point Cloud it contains the most RGB data from your capture great to be processed in CC or Revo Studio and meshed in higher quality than Revo Scan to preserve more RGB data .

I did used LED light , but set very low to not interact with the gain … however you will be able to scan it outdoors , or by the window light without issue as long you are not in direct sun .
I am going to make scan session outdoors when my new tablet with 8GB RAM arrives.

They look really good!

I am mostly using a Windows tablet with 8GB RAM, it’s ok for most stuff,
one thing that would help a lot would be if the gain slider was bigger, its ok when using a touch pad or mouse but with touch screen it is a bit difficult to get it to move when scanning and you quickly want to move the gain up or down a little

Thanks Johnathan, yes I know I can’t move the slider even on my Windows Wacom Contiq touch monitor and sometimes it get stuck .
On my android phone no problem , so I hope the new Android tablet will works as well .

@PUTV The new color scans are looking great, Im excited to receive my mini and now starting to prep for its arrival.
May I ask, the zinc Oxide powder mix, should it be uncoated Non-nano micronised or otherwise? I am looking on ebay and there are different types of powder.
thank you
john

Hi John , it should be non-nano cosmetic grade , the others are not safe to use in home environment.
Non-nano is safe , also skin friendly as it is used in sunscreen spray, lotions and creams.

The micro and nano need special lab environment and protective gear so not recommend.

Congrats on your new gadget! I hope it arrives soon !
