Yes it is, you getting a perfect point cloud but I will do that only for partial scans that have to be merged . Revo Scan doing better job on cleaning the point cloud while converting it to mesh and less noisy than Revo Studio .
That is also the reason why the option is there , dense meshes converted to point clouds merging so much better in Revo Studio.
The points are always there , no matter it is a mesh or point cloud , but converted from mesh are perfectly arranged.
Try for yourself , scan 2 parts of your model , mesh it at 6 without closing holes and export , you will get 2 files , one will be the mesh and other will be the point cloud fuse files , try merging the converted meshes to point clouds, and try the 2 parts of the fused point cloud and compare for yourself the results .
You going to save yourself a time and will get smooth results after merging .
It works well especially for objects where there there is a lot of flat surfaces , like for reverse engineering where you want the noise level to be down mostly .
If you want to keep the density of the mesh at the same value after merging and meshing, simplify the mesh after merging and meshing with very closer value to the original , it will remesh it correctly with focus on the details .
Simplyfying the mesh is important after merge of the scans , it will equalize the mesh .
Especially needed if you merging objects that was scanned with fast scan + high accuracy .
I printed the same T-Rex in white mate PLA and scanned well too on both POP2 and MINI , any is good as long it is matte filament and of course not black .
Nice scan , I see POP2 picked up also the printed layers !
BTW remember my Chinese Lion scan with POP2 that I used for my video tutorial ? , I just printed out 2 of them in bigger version at 15cm/6 inches in wood yesterday using the same final files from my video .
I printed my lions also at 0.3mm layer height with low temp 20% wood filament at 180 C as it looks more like a raw bamboo wood after , lower layers don’t give that raw wood effect as much.
MINI can pick up stuff you mostly don’t see with your bare eye but if you can feel it with touch it will show up in your scan.
That’s good to know, thanks.
The Mini sounds ideal for us as I mostly scan small items and my wife makes jewellery so could use the finer detail for casting rings, etc.
Glad to know that! Hopefully, MINI can be online right after the Kickstarter campaign ends. That would be 15th July. But the shipment may take a while.
PUTV, i,ve got the pop2 a couple days before. I’ve read all this thread. You are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. I thank you deeply. You are a teacher who explains in detail and cares about his students.
Thank you very much
