Newby tries to scan a black shiny case :(

Hello!

I already have some experience in 3D printing, but I’m still a total novice when it comes to 3D scanning.

I have tried to scan a (unfortunately) shiny black case on a white background on a turntable with a POP2, but unfortunately without success.

I have already tried the scan mode “dark” and object markers and also changed the exposure setting from auto to manual and back.

All to no avail: the result is total garbage.

I would be very grateful for any help!

Hi!
Please read this first.

also check this video (there are many more useful videos on that channel worth watching!)

TL;DR: on many dark and/or shiny surfaces you still need some matting with scanning spray or cheaper with somthing like dry hair shampoo/ foot spray if you can wash the object after scanning . It all depends how reflective dark /shiny surface is to infrared light ,which Revopoint-scanners project.

please try that first, than come back if you still have some problems. also it seems to me you need more of markers if you want to use marker mode.

THANK YOU very much!

Knew already most of the mentioned aspects, but the spray thing is new to me and seems very promising when I look at my object.

I’ll come back soon as I tried

you are very welcome! and welcome to the community!
