Leave your feedback & suggestions on the Revo Scan 5

Revoscan version: 5.2.1.420
System: Lenovo Laptop with Win 11
Scanner: POP2

…7 months later.

After far less than stellar results earlier, I took to heart the comments of one respondant who said he could re-create the floppy drive case I wanted to reproduce easier & faster in Fusion 360 than scanning it with the POP2 scanner. I should have challenged him to do so, but I didn’t, and instead I packed up the POP 2 and spent months with Fusion 360. Long story short, I’m no closer to reproducting the case than I was in December of last year.

So I just brought out the POP 2, purchased a new Lenovo laptop and returned here to the new version of Revoscan (and to learn that my POP 2 is now"old"). I installed the Revoscan and did my first test scan and WOW! I am blown away by the new Revoscan software! NOW it is worth investing in a scanner. The previous software was basic, archaic and, well, not very good, but this new version is, at first glance, spectacular. Congratulations to the Revopoint Team for developing this software. Good job well done.

I am going to take my time in learning the new software and scanning techniques before attempting the original project I had in mind. My first scan turned out surprisingly well, so I have had my enthusiasm replenished. No suggestions at this time, just wanted to leave my feedback on the product, as well as a big Thank You!

I would like to request a feature/workflow option. Having meshed and wanting to fill holes I prefer the manual tool as I can specify the type of fill that is used. This is important for certain gaps in the scan. Once I have done those I would love to use the auto function on the remaining less critical areas but this isn’t possible (unless you tell me otherwise). Instead I have to click, select each small hole individually. I can’t even use the selection box tool for this part of the process, a further improvement possibly. Thanks.

Anybody tried the newest Update 5.3.0?
I made some tests with old scans, but the alignment isn’t better.

I made tests 2 days ago and yesterday , it works all fine as it should , please try with new scans , old scans have old fusing what was not as good either . If you have old project done with preview version , please fuse them again .

The new fusing and merging was improved , no more artifacts or merging seams after merge .

Does anyone have any links to workflow videos for the latest release? I upgraded the other day and I am struggling to understand the workflow. Im accustomed to doing manual editing and I feel like I am fighting the software when editing.

it would be worth it if you could delete unwanted objects in RAW. Now it processes the whole set, which is time-consuming

Hi @dean the RAW is not an editable file , it is virtual preview in real time of all the frames data you captured from the project folder .
The editable files are generated after the cell frames are actually fused into organized point cloud .

I know. that’s why I wrote that it would be worth it. At least the FUSE option would be selected only…

Even if that was possible, the processing of that would take longer than simple fuse your RAW data scan and just edit it with a single click after , to get rid of the plate . It is quicker to deal just with one single files in place of 350 or 4000 of them …

Hi @GuyH77
Thanks for the advice. We are very sorry that we can only support manually patching the holes after constructing the mesh, we don’t have the function of one-click patching for the time being at this moment. We will discuss with the dev team about it. Thank you for your understanding.

I love the real-time distance spectrum when scanning, and I think I know how to improve it.
The spectrum does take into account the “scanning distance setting”, which is awesome. In other words, data/points outside the scanning range are not displayed on the spectrum.
However, the “hide surfaces” setting is not taken into account: any chance you could change that? This would be especially useful when scanning objects on a turntable or a flat surface.

As far as I can tell, when using the export function, Revo Scan (on Windows) always opens the folder where Revo Scan is installed (C:\Program Files\Revo Scan 5 by default). It would be nice to remember the last folder used.

“Export function with Alzheimer”
This is one bug that had been fixed at some point in time and popped up again in the last versions.
It is very annoying

“Scan Spectrum”
Would also be great if the Spectrum moved from the far right to the left, just after the capture camera images since most of the time those are more important than the scan points specially when using Range for full body scan since it keeps zooming too close instead of showing the full model plus the new capture pointcloud in green

I would be great if we finally get an option to turn the RGB off under Merge Tab if you have to scan with color .
And also manual alignment as we have in Revo Studio
Feature
Marker Point
Manual
