Hello Jane,
Will the MetroX 3D scanner be able to scan in direct sunlight ?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike , you should not use any laser scanner in direct sunlight .
One way or another the sunlight will induce noises or alter the scanned result . Please wait until the full specifications are revealed on KS page .

Hi Catharina,
I have used other 3D scanners that work in direct sunlight, but they cost well over $50,000.
I was using them to scan boats that are outside of sheds.
Mike.

Mike my point is that we can’t share informations yet to the public regarding MetroX
Once next info is approved , you gonna see it by next teaser update .
Have a little patience please

All I can tell you that it can easy scan dark and metalic surfaces much easier than infrared structured light scanner . But it is totally different kind of scanner that was previously produced by Revopoint with more possibilities.

More info soon …

Fantastic, Thank you

I’m looking forward to the laser mode and am curious to see how well holes can be scanned with it

Should be much easier since laser penetrate much deeper into the surfaces .

Yes, with the laser line mode you can also do other great things like surface scans, like impressions in the ground, etc.

Endless possibilities

Yes a lot of cool thing !

As with most all real laser scanners it is not USB powered device to use with phones or tablets .

BTW there is no laser line mode available at this moment .

For everyone that trying to get rid of Range and other scanners remember those types of Laser scanners are not for scanning humans and animals since they have powerful lasers that can damage the eye retina , so nothing to play with since the powerful lasers are usually Class 2 .

Yes, this is why I think this is a bold and wise move not to include IR scanning. On one hand, it should help to keep costs under control. On the other hand, it will not predate its current line of scanners. Even from a security perspective it is better like this, to avoid potential and fatal mistakes.

Just an idea, a nice security feature would be if the camera could recognize faces. If a face is recognized the laser switches off immediately. There are many small TensorFlow models that could accomplish this without much computing power.

U can even make some models for microcontrollers, there’s a platform for this: https://edgeimpulse.com/

Good idea, how fast is such face recognition?

I bet MetroX is a class 2 laser like all the other consumer/prosumer competitive laser 3d scanners, and as such as safe as direct sunbeams - no problems with diffuse reflections, direct view causing the eyes to relexively close. Only a fool would stare at a sun or such light source. Surely no toy to point at people’s open eyes and better off doing face scans with IR scanners.

Fast enough I think, I don’t know the MCU Chip of the metro X. Here’s one with an stm32 6 years ago:

They use a mathematical algorithm here, ML models can get a lot more speed out of it.

No thanks. Don’t waste resource in useless stuff.
Tired of babysitting products.
It’s a tool, learn how to use it properly.
If i want to direct it in my eyes and blind myself, it’s my choice. I need no tools to think for me.

“useless stuff”

Exactly , thankfully there is not so many other way they would prohibit sales of pointing lasers that uses Class 2 .

Do you want to know a secret?
You would be not successful scanning humans with MetroX, no matter what you do … :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Inno89 you made me smile out loud , because I totally agree with you here . I don’t trust machines , systems fails . You need to use common sense .

@SphaeroX I don’t think it is so dangerous for that kind of precaution , safely glasses are more than enough when use in specific situations ( highly reflective surfaces )

Nothing will stop fools from doing what fools will do .

The warning labels and instructions will be included
