For the Mac computer requirements, an M2 is listed as minimum. Is an M1 Pro compatible as well?

How does the Revopoint MetroX compare with the Miraco Plus? Is there somewhere that I can compare the features of each?

You can’t compare both because they use total different technology for a total different tasks .
Like comparing Apple to an Orange

One is Infrared based and the other Blue laser based .

I suggest you Google about the 2 technologies and read the basic … lots of information.

If you have any specific question regarding your needs and what you need it for, I can help you in making the decision based on your needs .

For the laser scanning modes, can it work on objects with BOTH shinny metallic surfaces and dark surfaces ( most machine parts are like that ) or it can only be set to work on one kind only ?

All modes use actually lasers just different numbers of lines and different types .

All can scan dark objects like black plastic , black rubber or rubberized materials , acrylics, shiny or brushed metals , metallic painted plastics in any colors .

When you set the exposures on auto , it will adjust automatic the laser level to specific surface currently in the scanned areas .

No glass, transparent or mirrors .

The description of the " Full-field Blue Structured Light mode " is "… using 62 lines of blue structured light for fast and detailed point cloud creation ". I guess the blue structured light is not laser but those used by the Mini ?

Mini can’t scan black plastic or any other materials that the 62 Lines mode can or scan all color materials , totally new and improved Structured light technology and DLP Laser .
I have both of them.

Yes , it is blue structured light on that mode, no laser, therefore no marker needed using that (on feature rich surfaces). :partying_face:

I’ve also been told by Revo guys the blue light on MetroX is 4x as bright as blue light on mini. Combine that with 4x FOV of mini.:star_struck:

Structured Light laser not LED

Structured light is just a technology how the light pattern is used and has nothing to do what kind of light sources it use .

Standard Structured Lights can’t scan black plastics or dark objects or bigger objects just like MINI can’t do it .

And no it should be not used to scan direct into the eyes either Class 2M .

The only Blue LED are the 12 light around the Depth Sensors that are not projection lights it is Blue Fill LED Light .

Structured Laser Light is a technique for projecting a known pattern of pixels ( horizontal lines) onto an object. The way that these deform when striking surfaces allows vision systems to calculate the depth and surface information of the objects. The speed of data capture is the primary advantage of structured light scanners as they record multiple points at the same time and in the machine vision industry, they are ideal for high-speed inspection or 3D measurements.

Don’t forget Miraco and all other Revo Scanners also use infrared laser with DLP projector Class 1M

So all the scanning modes on metroX use LASER as projection source and all are laser class 2M, I get it. Wondering why Revopoint chose to leave the word “laser” out of “blue full-field structured light”. IMO this implies another , weaker light source than a laser. On Mini(s) it is the same. I´d like Revopoint to add “laser” to that mode ,as MetroX is a powerful scanner and would do it justice more.

It is called SLLP
But usually people don’t put the laser in to not make confusion with the Laser scanning technology…

Too many the same words that means different things .

You can’t focus an LED to do that .
The laser shine into DLP micro mirror and the mirror change the pattern right to left constantly.

Since the laser mode already use also laser projectors it will be too confusing what is what .

All Revopoint scanners used laser projectors no matter infrared or not … it was until now only Class 1 M.

Just pay attention to the terms
In the technology used in the article .

SLP is different from SLLP
Both use the same technology but results are different.

Mini use also SLLP but Class 1M what is more weaker and less power because it is portable scanner . It is also Full Field scanning and new terms will be reflected correctly in the new upcoming software in December.

SLIRP are also structured light projector but use infrared .

When we hear about a Laser scanning technology we think about little laser lines collecting the surface data back and forth , capturing many thousand of frames until the data is accumulated , time consuming process . Shaking hands ? You gonna scan faster :joy:

Laser scanning technology don’t use features while scanning so it relay on the software marker mode for tracking .

SLLP Full Field can use object features and markers , global markers, frame markers . And it is the most clean surface capturing technology with best accuracy for SLLP , fast and efficient scanning detailed surfaces .

Laser Mode

7 Lines : Parallel Mode ( detailed scanning mode ) markers only

14 Lines : Cross Mode ( flat surfaces less features mode ) markers only

62 Lines : Full Field Mode ( super detailed mode, objects with lots of features and very fine details ( markers and without markers )

It seems like structured light mode is the preferred mode to use. Fastest, most detailed and does not always require markers. It is also the only mode that can possibly be used to scan people. Why not skip laser scanning altogether and focus only on SLLP scanning? What are the drawbacks compared to parallel laser or crossed laser modes? Is structured light the most taxing on the PC? What scanning mode does automatic turntable use or can you choose between the 3? In what circumstances would you choose laser scanning (either mode) over structured light?
