Andy's (Rilot) Revopoint MetroX - Showcase

MetroX is an innovative new scanner from Revopoint

Four Scanning Modes

  • Cross Lines laser: Fourteen crossed lines rapidly scan larger surfaces at speeds of up to 800,000 points per second. No scanning spray is needed for glossy or black areas.
  • Parallel Lines laser: Seven high-powered parallel blue laser lines are projected to accurately capture fine details, edges, and complex surfaces.
  • Full-field structured light: Using blue structured light, it offers high-speed scanning at up to 7 million points/second for efficient point cloud capture. This mode also enables marker-free scanning of feature-rich objects, simplifying the process and reducing setup time.
  • Auto Turntable: The hands-free setup lets users place MetroX on a desk and automatically scan objects using the Dual-axis Turntable and full-field structured light.

High Precision and Accuracy

MetroX captures feature-rich and featureless objects with remarkable fidelity—up to 0.01 mm precision, 0.03 mm accuracy, and a fused point distance of up to 0.05 mm.

Seamless Workflow

The free companion software, Revo Scan, streamlines the scanning and post-processing workflow, covering point cloud fusion, meshing, editing, and import/export options. It can also offer a wide variety of file formats for full compatibility with third-party software like Quicksurface, Geomagic Wrap, and Geomagic Control.

Professional Solutions

MetroX offers professionals an enhanced reverse engineering, quality control, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping 3D modeling experience with metrology-grade accuracy at an appealing price.

Get your MetroX for only $649 (MSRP $999) on Kickstarter now.

Full Field accuracy

First things first, an accuracy check. We will take a scan of a Honda S2000 cam chain tensioner, measure it, get the scan in to Fusion, and then fit curves to it and measure them.

I take two measurements. The plunger and the barrel:

Plunger is 16.00mm in diameter:

In to Fusion, it measures 16.01mm, a difference of 0.01mm.

The barrel measures 34.02mm in diameter. I had to use callipers rather than a micrometer due to the size.

In to Fusion and we get 33.97mm for a difference of 0.05mm from the physical measurement.

Accuracy is excellent.

Great examples. Thanks. I’d love to see videos of the efforts gone to in order to achieve these results. Hopefully some come out this week before the KS ends

Thanks @Rilot for doing these real world scans with your demo unit… really looking forward to getting mine when it comes. Glad I took the leap of faith on backing the Kickstarter.

You’re welcome. It’s a fantastic scanner to be honest. Revopoint have really knocked it out of the park with this one.
I like it so much I backed it with my own money so that I have a spare!

As an early adopter of an Einscan way back in 2014, I was burned by the lack of software updates for that model, and later the lack of a macOS port for their other products, suffice to say I could run it in Windows using Parallels, something they didn’t support, but I lost interest. I’ve been waiting for some blue line laser models to become more affordable, and did look at a Raptor at a 3D print show this year.I’d be real interested in a Quicksurface Lite run through, if you ever get this, as I’m seriously thinking of doing the subscription to clean up/reverse engineer in my CAD software.

Wow, really good looking scans. This puts so many of my concerns to bed (definitely selling my mini as after seeing these results). Auto turntable mode seems to produce some stellar textures as well.
Have you done any scans in the parallel and crossed laser modes? Looks like a lot of what you shared was full field and I’m curious how that stuff stacks up. I was under the impression that the parallel and crossed line lasers would provide the greatest accuracy for smaller parts, is that true? The laser modes also require markers, is that right?

I was going to buy an Otter in addition to the MetroX as I need to scan objects up to 1m in size with textures in a decent quality. I was going to use the Metro X to exclusively scan small parts (model kits, reverse engineering, etc.), but after seeing those full field and colour scans I’m feeling confident I could possibly just forget about the Otter altogether.

You can’t scan in color with the MetroX other than auto turntable mode. If you need color scans of larger objects you’ll need another scanner in addition to the MetroX.

Hi Jurbin
I’ve done some scans with the laser modes and they are great for large, flat objects such as engine cases etc. That’s not really my focus though.
I’m planning to do some laser scans this week and will add them here once they are done.

Hello! Is it possible to use MetroX with PowerBank?

As it comes no. However, I have bought a cable that is USB-C on one end that has a USB-PD trigger to 12V. It then has a 5.5mm barrel on the other end. Works perfectly with a powerbank then.
This cable: GINTOOYUN USB Type-C to DC 12V Power Charge Cable,USB-C Male Input to DC5.5x2.5mm Male Power Plug Charge Cable, for Router, CCTV,etc(4.9FT)(12V) : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

IT MUST BE 12V - Any more and it will destroy the scanner
