Inspire 2 not working properly

My Inspire 2 arrived today and got quite a few problems.

The biggest issue is that I cannot use it with usb connection on my desktop pc (5900x, RTX3090, 32GB RAM) for some reason the metro app correctly identifies it (can see serial number and change wifi configuration) but get a “cannot get camera info” or similar and windows camera correctly identifies both RGB and depth cameras but doesn’t display anything, already checked the forums and tried all the troubleshooting guides and suggestions (tried every port of the pc, usb3/3.1/type C, tried many different cables, tried reinstalling windows camera app, checked firewall permissions for camera, privacy configuration for camera, reinstalled drivers and made sure they appear with their correct name in device manager, tried to check if the AP configuration tool finds it but it doesn’t, and many more things related to services and windows registry entries for cameras…none of it worked).

So I tried the scanner on an old laptop (i7-8750H, 1080maxq, 24GB RAM) and it worked, super slow in parallel lines mode, but it worked, with any usb connection and cable combination, so it’s not an hardware issue of the scanner.

Then I tried to use the AP of the scanner but my desktop couldn’t find it initially, for some reason with my new wifi adapter (wifi 6e) it simply doesn’t show up in the list of wireless networks, but by using the older integrated wifi chip of the motherboard (wifi 5) it did finally show up, and was able to use the scanner correctly on desktop.

So I can at least use it but I’m not able to calibrate it because an USB connection is required for calibration mode…

I tried to use it on my smartphone and it mostly works, but the global marker mode seems to only see markers and doesn’t produce a model for some reason (same procedure on pc works as intendend by contrast)

This situation is kinda bizarre, I hoped for a better out of the box experience, I know this is a new product but seeing that something similar already happened to other scanners makes me question how QC was done when testing this model… I hope that there’s a way to make this work with USB because I really need to calibrate this before using it.

I’ll make a clean W11 install on another partition of my PC, so at least I can rule out a nonstandard software configuration…

I’d have really liked to share my opinions on the scanner but I really didn’t have much time playing with it because of all of the troubleshooting

You need to set the camera privacy permission under Windows settings for camera to works proper with the software

Issues like that are typical system issues , not much to do with the device or the software. Don’t waste time searching .

Sometimes it is camera settings , the other time USB drivers need to be updated .

please contact customer@revopoint3d.com for technical assistance.

Did you read what I wrote earlier? I already checked (disabled and enabled to be precise) the privacy permissions in windows settings, and I specified that I was able to confirm that it’s not an hardware issue, and that the best thing to try (when I have time) is doing a clean windows install to have a definite answer.

Will report as soon as I try it.

In the meantime, I did a quick laser scan on a gamepad to see how accurate the model would be compared to the real thing, and both small and large features of the model are smaller by about 20 micron, I’m quite happy with the performance of the laser mode, it also runs at high framerates on my rig, tracks markers and the model really well, needs more testing obviously but it’s quite promising.

Hi @famicom89

I just posted the most troubleshooting that are responsible for the issue you experienced .

I had a brand new laptop , only 2 USB C worked fine , the other don’t even react to the device . But of course it had nothing to do with the device but the system drivers that could not recognize the device , some ports are underpowered, other need driver updates /new installation, not need reinstalling whole system.

And I can ensure you it is the system and USB driver issue . Sometimes simply remove the driver and reinstall it again fixing it on most systems.

But contact customer@revopoint3d.com and report your system issue as well , the technicians have always some tricks on the hand.

If you have problem seeing markers , keep the scanner at 45 degrees , if still issues at 45 degrees or even direct on top the markers , you will need probably recalibrate the scanner as it is the first indicator to do so.

Make sure there are at least 3 markers visible at all time while scanning using marker or in laser mode .

To get better accuracy , you will need to capture at least 8000 frames at minimum and preferable is 16000 for parallel mode to get smoother surface .

For any future issues with connection , you can also check this article

20um is better than the specification for Inspire 2 from memory, and laizenes to bother checking its 50um

That’s true , Inspire 2 Accuracy is 50 um , so having difference only of 20um makes it miraculous good.

The single frame precision is 30 um

Volumetric accuracy is 0.05 mm + 0.1 mm × L (m) , L is the length of the object.

Only when using Marker mode .

I always believed that Inspire series was somehow better than POP series , I even joked calling it POP4 on the release :joy:

But we already knows that the accuracy numbers on the specification paperwork are always downgraded from actual better numbers , meaning they showing much lower numbers as it should for better for the users.

Here the same. Worked on my notebook (i5, quadcore) perfectly in structured light mode, but didn’t let me even try parallel lines. Results are like my POP2 or even better, that’s fine.

My desktop pc has an AMD hexcore (Revo Metro rated it as “Average”), but it was very difficult to get the device to work at all. The only USB-C port didn’t work, same with the USB-A ports on the backside. Finally I found one port on the front that worked, but not with parallel lines. When changing mode after a while I get that same message “cannot get camera info” and something like “Restart scanner and try again”. After a while the scanner reboots and the game starts over again.

But the scanner hardware is OK: Today, after trying different USB-ports, I got it to work with the gaming desktop from my son! It was fun to scan that way.

I know that I will never be able to scan with my desktop so fast as the revopoint girls could do at the formnext, but I know for sure that I will find something with nvidia sign under the christmas tree.

Today I ordered the USB splitter cable. When it arrives, I will try again with an additional power source.

You can connect the Inspire2 to any power Bank or even phone charger that support 5V output via the included cable and connect to your desktop via WiFi and see if your CPU is fast enough , you can still use laser mode for sure even if at slower rate . At least you can check out CPU to be sure it is not the USB port that drag everything down .

WiFi or USB C , both performs at the same speed on my laptop what is around 30 to 40 Mps of data flow .

To have the full performance you would need the recommended system specifications or better .

Thanks for your answer! Unfortunately my desktop has no WiFi, it has LAN by cable only. And Inspire2 has host mode only, it is not possible to switch in WiFi client mode, so I can’t connect it to my home LAN as I did with the POP in 2021:

But today I got a stabile connection to one USB port on the backside of my desktop, perhaps because I reinstalled the drivers or because yesterday I didn’t try this one, don’t remember.

I was able to scan something, but only with 17 fps and it looked like data trash. But after fusioning I really found SOMETHING inside this trash:

OK, I see that I need hardware that fits at least the minimum requirements for the Inspire2. When Santa brings the RTX 3060 I will bribe the elves for a better CPU. And some more RAM.

Meanwhile I will have a further look at the connection problems.

Unfortunately with 17 fps it is very slow indeed. For Full Field even 15 fps are ok and you can use your phone via WiFi as well. But for laser you need more and faster data flow ( frames)

The reason there is no client mode because your Ethernet cable can’t handle the laser data flow at this moment , I am not sure when they make it works because there are issues when using other than custom cables .

Hopefully the new RTX 3060 bring you some extra GPU power for scanning using laser mode and GPU acceleration.

Make sure your system in the future have reserved the same amount of RAM for your new RTX card for full performance.

Thank you for the infos, very useful and appreciated as always. I will get the Ryzen 7 5800X and 32GB RAM from my son on Christmas, when he is building up his new AM5-based desktop PC. So I should have enough power for doing some laser scanning.

Hello,

My desktop also doesn’t have Wi-Fi.
Just buy something like this and connect it USB WLAN Stick, RENGOGA AC600Mbit/s USB WLAN Adapter DualBand with Built-in Driver, WiFi Adapter Compatible with PC/Desktop/Laptop Windows XP/7/8/10/11: Amazon.de: Computer & Accessories… works great with my INPIRE2.

Thank you for the info, I just ordered it.:+1:
