I took MetroX to work because I was asked to scan a student’s clay model so that they can 3d print it and do things with it in Blender.
Object is 80mm long
Scanned in laser cross-lines mode
Yes, those are indeed fingerprints in the clay!
It’s Christmas! Time to scan some decorations and man, they are tough to scan. Lots of textures and very small.
All scanned with auto-turntable mode
Let’s start with Santa. 45mm tall.
A sqirrell decoration. 100mm tall.
A fox decoration. 50mm long.
Great scans of very challenging looking objects! Which scanning mode did you use for these?
Sorry, forgot to say. Auto-turntable mode for all of them.
Thanks for Information. Also for Santa? I was uncertain, because of the surrounding Markers/Blocks.
Yes, also for Santa. I used marker tracking mode with auto-turntable. You can do both marker or feature tracking in that mode. Marker tracking is more reliable for small objects.
I had the wish that Revopoint is implementing hybrid tracking modes (Marker & Feature) Maybe then a Laserscan can also be done with less/without markers by using full light and laser line at once
Laser mode is a totally different animal here . Feature mode is pointless. It can’t see any features .
Hello Rilot,
one question from a scanning Rookie:
why do you use additional marker items on the turntable? Is the turntable not enough or do you need them for flat angles where eventually the turntable marker are not seen well by the scanner?
Hi @Truderinger
You are correct about the angles. When the scanner is off axis by around 40 degrees, it stops being able to “see” the markers. The additional targets are to provide the scanner something to track even when pointing at near horizonal angles to the turntable.
Thanks Rilot,
again soemthing learned.
I am currently “training” with Miraco and awaiting my Metrox. So I will start the engines of my Bambu printer and make some 3d-marker.

Another day, another scan
A fox skull - Approx 120mm long
Scanned in cross-lines mode. 3 scans fused at 0.15mm and merged.
Question, can you answer when you using cross line and when full-field mode? Or maybe can you try to scan the skull again in Fullfield and compare?
Thanks BR

Hi @theFlow
I can scan it with full field later.
I tend to use laser modes more than full field because it’s better at getting in the holes and crevices. Full field works really well but we’ve been focussing on the laser modes for testing as that’s the new tech.
OK, here you go @theFlow
3 scans, all taken at the same time so that the conditions were consistent.
They are cross-lines (pink), auto-turntable (grey), and full-field (blue).
As you can see, the overall quality is pretty consistent across the modes, however look at the additional detail in the nasal cavity on the laser scan. On the other two, it’s just a hole that has been filled during meshing. With the laser scan, it’s got in there and resolved lots of detail.
Hello @Rilot , thanks for you comparison scans and the effort!
On the pictures it seems really nearly comparable regarding quality and resolution. That is really good to see.
Of course BlueLight Full Field is not new. But with an exceptional bigger FOV compared to RP Mini it is maybe a gamechanger for some people, also with the automatic turntable mode.
But it is also a good point out that laser scan “goes deeper”. A single Line Laser mode would even be better.
Thanks a lot! I’m very looking forward for my new scanner arriving (hopefully around Christmas time)
BTW, you make really good comparisons. Can you als compare the capability regarding darker objects with fullfield mode? Is it much better than scanning with e.g. Miraco? I often have dark objects to scan. Maybe you can try to scan something like a Logitech MX Master or comparable “Desktop Device” that is dark an known well by users. Or the Impact Driver or Battery you scanned. Maybe this was already scanned in such mode? Unfortunately not declared.
However thanks again and have a nice time.
