Tooth scanning, mini 2, high details

Hi guys,
For uni projects I need to scan a plastic tooth 2cm tall 1×1wide, white colour, shiny, with groove depth of 0.2mm.

Mini2 with rotating table, takes all the details except the most important part: tiny grooves. The come out very messy and in accurate.

I use feature mode, use marker mode, dark back ground, dimmed light. I changed the speed of table, changed the depth to 2x, but no success yet.

Any tips for me?

Cheers

Hi!
Use a scanning spray ,but just slightly dust the tooth. Depending on how accurate the scan has to be ( regarding layer thickness of scanning spray layer) you could also use dry shampoo , foot spray or DIY scanning spray (mixture of IPA >70% and non-nano zinc powder).

Or you make a copy out of plaster, which should scan perfectly fine without any scanning spray.

That’s actually the best solution to do in this case .

I would not recommend any 3D spray if you about to scan teeth

The only available is Abbtline 3D liquid that can be used for that purpose
Definitely no dry shampoo as it would cover all the details I instantly .

There are also no glare sprays that can be used to get rid of shine from plastic surfaces.

I will recommend you don’t scan just the single tooth , just secure it to the turntable plate with some sticky putty ,add some very small elements to it , you can remove it after scanning

Make sure your face the best distance of excellent , and scan 2 angles , one from the side and one from 45 degrees
So at least 2 angles with 1 360 rotation each and no more than that .

After scanning clean everything but the tooth using raw mode edit

Then fuse the raw scan using Advanced mode on the best settings
And then mesh it according to the settings of your fuse , so if advance mode fusing was on 0.08 mesh it at Grid 0.08 and not bigger to avoid artificial points that can induce noises .

This has cleared many confusions for me.thank you

What is the role of palster here? I AM AFRAID plaster may lose those tiny details. Whats your thought ?

Plaster will not lose the details if it is done correctly with special plaster for fine details.

I have excellent results using this technique. Teeth or acrylic gums are scattering light , plaster don’t resulting in much sharper results.

But if you don’t want to go through it all use

ATTBLIME µScan liquid – ATTBLIME – HIGH PERFORMANCE 3D SCANNING SPRAY

The best possible results with a layer of only 3 microns , great for the finest details, dentistry , electronics and jewelry makers.
