I know, the title is a bit “click-bait” but let me explain.
My wife’s grandfather sculpted and made molds for Breyer Horses. For years she had an original, unproduced horse named Trouble. (now you get it)
That photo is probably 25 years old.
Without getting into too much detail, it became known that we had this horse and a family member wanted to have it made into a production piece. The only thing we asked for is to get the original back, but we never did.
The horse was produced and we did get a production piece. The way they tried to reproduce the “rawness” of the unfinished sculpture fell short to me.
By removing the base it felt…off. It was always my desire to somehow take the copy and restore it look like the original. My first plan was to mold it and then cast it in resin, then reproduce the clay base.
Enter MetroX.
This was done in Full Field, Feature Tracking mode. I used dry shampoo to coat it and then used the turntable, scanning the bottom 1/3, then middle, then top. Merge - done.
It even captured the logo and number they stamped into it.
Now I can move forward with my restoration.
