hi! this looks like some cylindrical object, am I right? can you share a photo of the object you want to scan? regular geometrical shapes like cylinder, spheres you cannot scan without placing some trackable shapes on top of it (e. g. markers and use marker mode then), scanner need something it can track and stitch frames together.
Lack of features nothing more nothing less Adam , that how structured light scanners works , they need features since you projecting a lines on the surface, if there are not distortions of the lines there are no tracking points , and the software see it as an empty space .
Only shapes are features…
Markers need to be used in marker mode where the features of the object don’t matters , but markers need to be white dots with black outline. Or white dots on black surface .
So stick the markers you got with your package on the object and use marker mode to scan it .
For features type of objects you need a lot of markers around the object to keep tracking on the whole 360 degrees rotation , and usually it is a lot of markers .
If you object is small you can add any other elements to the scene for support .
What you experienced is lose tracking ,
I don’t know the dimension of the object but if it is smaller just put some other small objects around , it will help you keep the tracking .
Also black plastic or very dark is not the best choice for scanning , …
