Revo Scan 5 MetroX V5.6.8 crashes during scanning

Hi @OBN_RacerMan yes but 5.6.4 is already removed from that list to download and it is so far most stable public version.

I did not noticed they added the download section on the bottom of the page , thanks for the note .

Any news on this? Is there a known issue with this release that they are working on getting a patch out for soon? I haven’t used it yet but will be in the coming days and am wondering what to expect.

I don’t have any issues with crashing of the software while scanning .

There may be issues when fusing it at a very high settings that can lead to crash when it uses most of the available system RAM and that is knowing issue .

However the crashing while scanning was not yet replicated by the Dev.team yet or me , however it is under investigation as I personally submitted and reported it to the team.

This issue only affects some systems and not everyone’s system , once the course of it is found it will be updated with a new version

Those that experiences crashing it is recommended to use preview version for now but don’t go below 5.6.4

got the same on my older laptop with i7 9850H with RTX 3000 and 80Gbram

had run calibration before i opened a older scan and contiued to scan on it then it crashed… it might have been the problem. i did a 2 times 4000 frames scan in laser lines just fine after the crash but i created a new project.

so did anyone of you open a old project and continue scanning when it happens?

i also see that i lose a bit more points when i do Fusion, just an observation

Usually when you open a project with an old calibration scan you can’t continue scanning the same object after you recalibrated your scanner as the results may not match.

For that reason it is not recommended to recalibrate your scanner if you have unfinished projects .

There may be many reason why it crashing , and mostly system related , and since everyone uses different system it is hard to catch the issue , Dev team is looking into this issue to find out why .

i could not replicate that issue since I use only recommend system parameters.

yes i did a new scan in an old project so not the same scan directly, so might have been a fluke. will test some more. i have sent logs to feedback via email since it does not work in revoscan for some reason.

Yes very good , I hope everyone do the same and send the log files via feedback for better and faster fixes .

The only fastest way the Dev team can access it quickly .

Have tested 3 more scans and all of them over 4000 frames and all is working well. The scan quality is superior to the .7 version and also tracking markers are noticable improved. So not sure what happened with my first scan, only thing was that was an older project that I opened and added a new scan there

Same here , zero issues

Maybe the glitch is indeed with running older projects or projects being saved on slower location .

I know if I save my project on my external drive it will crash while scanning as the data moving too slow and it overload the RAM.

But when using my system M2 SSD no issues at all.

I will forward your findings tonight to the team to give them some feedback directly .

Crashing here as well. I ran a recalibration and started all new projects. It didn’t crash with marker tracking in full field but with laser scanning and regular marker tracking it crashes anywhere from a few hundred frames to thousands of frames. Trying to get a global marker cloud also crashes it. With the global marker cloud established it can crash after a few hundred or after thousands. Full screen or not. Gpu rendering acceleration on or not. Gpu scanning off and on cpu only still crash. When I tried that I was able to grab a nice big marker cloud and then when I started my global marker scan it crashed. Seems very random. I managed to get a couple good scans of 12,000 frames and complete a project but it crashed many times. The 12,000 frame scans went from 0 to 12,000 without crashing. This is also with newest studio driver and with newest game driver as it didn’t seem to matter. Specs for my machine are windows 10, ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb ram, 2060 super gpu, 1tb m.2 ssd. No issues with 5.6.7 besides spacemouse not working there. The marker tracking is superior in this one when it works though which is great.

Did a lot of testing, and this sums up my experience as well. Tried reinstalling Revoscan, tried different USB controllers, tried powered USB hubs. Even uninstalled the last few Windows updates.

Sometimes the program abruptly exists and records the same thing in the log each time:

[2025-08-27 02:34:11.426 error TID:13864 CameraManager]: Get frame data from Scanner failed, ret=50462728

Other times it actually causes a lockup of the entire computer requiring a hard restart (reset button or power cycle).

It only happens on my desktop. It is rock solid on my laptop and Mac Studio (M2 Max). However this problem does not exist in 5.6.7 on the desktop (I can switch back and forth).

I can also agree with this version being the absolute best so far in terms of tracking. On my Mac, at 45fps, it feels like previous versions on my PC at 60fps. Very usable. I like working on the Mac because the interface scales properly.

If everything goes well without any hiccups, a new version may be released next week to address the issues.

Finger crossed stay tuned!

That’s good to hear :+1:t3:

All features work great for me now also. Laser and turntable is very good. Marker tracking is phenomenal and when I would normally be around 7k frames I was at 14k because I was able to get lower with the angles that normally slow things down if I am not paying close enough attention. I can now use much simpler marker layouts. Only thing I thought I noticed was maybe a little too much smoothing on merged clouds but at same time the transition lines are a little cleaner so give and take I guess. All in all the best update yet!

I have an m4 macbook air with 24gb of ram running the public release version of Tahoe, and am using version 5.6.9.326 of Revo Scan MetroX. Doing an automatic turntable scan of an object (in the latest attempt, the small white bust that came with my scanner) with 5 passes (at 0, 15, -15, 30, and -30 degrees tilt) set to 30s per pass at 10 degree increments, results in Revo Scan MetroX crashing without warning or error message. It just disappears. Of the many crashes I’ve had happen (some with different settings, but all with the automatic turntable since that is the easiest choice) only one has resulted in the typical mac application crash reporting window appearing. Unfortunately, I did not capture the details of the crash and it does not show up in the system log.

just for the record, it has occurred with other turntable settings, with both automatic and manual depth exposure and exposure settings, and with both General and Black Object object types.
