Today there was an update to my Nvidia Graphics card - RTX 5000 (notebook). The update was to version 595 release 12th March 26. I have Revoscan Metro version 5.8.5 installed. After the update Revoscan attempted to launch but the the screen had just large black areas on the screen, very occasionally if you hovered the mouse around the screen you could see the home page, but it would not stay. Revoscan 5 for my Miraco also failed the same way. I installed revoscan 6 for the Miraco and that works ok with the new driver. However, despite uninstalling and re-installing the Metro app, it would not work. I had to downgrade the Nvidia driver to 582.41 and that fixed the problem. Normally one would keep on the latest graphics driver, so hopefully something can be done?
Just checked with my laptop. Legion 7i with an RTX 5070 and 585.79 drivers and Everything seems to be working on my end. I didn’t try scanning but I can open projects and all seems well. I would double check that Revo Metro is opening with the dgpu and not the integrated GPU. I’ve seen the integrated GPU cause problems in other apps.
No issues here either , make sure your software opening using the proper GPU , you can select it direct from the desktop, if your dedicated GPU don’t support the proper OpenGL the software will not work proper.
Check your system again as that’s your system settings problem here.
Thanks for the info. I did use the Nvidia control panel to force the use of the rtx card instead of “auto”, but the result was the same. Is there another way to make sure the app opens using the rtx GPU?
Thanks for this info, I had already found that earlier, but via the Nvidia control panel. Now that’s done I will re update the Nvidia driver to the latest version and let you know how it goes.
I have had a reply from support and they suggest sticking with the rolled back older driver for now. Makes sense as I am sure there is nothing in the new driver that will affect me at this stage.
Quote from support for others who may see this:
Thank you for your detailed feedback.
Based on the current information, Revo Metro GPU acceleration supports NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series and 40 Series GPUs on Windows. Also, some GPU models may face compatibility issues, such as display problems, being unable to generate point clouds, or crashes.
Since you have confirmed that rolling back to driver version 582.41 fixes the issue, we recommend continuing to use that driver version for now.
Well, you must have some good influence with the Dev team!
Many thanks for your intervention, I received this message from them last night:
“Hi David,
Thank you for reaching out!
We sincerely appreciate your feedback. I have already urged our R&D team to test the RTX A5000 graphics card with the R595 U2 (595.79) driver version to identify any potential compatibility issues.
Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Should you encounter any technical issues, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Yonghui Chen
Revopoint 3D Team”
I’ll be interested to see how their investigation goes.
Yes they started the investigation after my intervention yesterday to see what is really going on and see if the software missing something or there are a drivers issues. But since it do not response the same way with everyone’s system , this issue need to be investigated more deeply.
No problem David , it is good you brought it up to my attention.
I did take a screen shot yesterday of how the app starts up:
Every few seconds the home screen appears, but only a quick flash and then the arrow appears again. Sometimes with another random area of black to the left side.
Ok there may be some issues , you first stated the graphic card was RTX 5000 but the card in question is Quadro card RTX A5000, now it changes completely the situation , Quadro cards are not optimal with Revopoint software and as many working just fine their drivers are not fully compatible and optimal and never was, I guess for now you will need to use the older driver as I think this issue will not be solved fast enough to waiting for it .
Ah, that’s interesting, according to my research the RTX 5000 (no a) is the Quatro card. My card is the RTX a5000 released in 2021 and should be a far superior card.
The RTX A5000 is a professional workstation GPU built on NVIDIA’s Ampere architecture (the same generation as the GeForce RTX 30-series, but geared for professionals). It succeeded the previous Quadro-series cards, bringing major generational improvements. With Ampere’s second-gen RT Cores and third-gen Tensor Cores, the A5000 can accelerate ray tracing, AI, and compute tasks up to 2× faster than the previous generation in many scenarios . This makes it a formidable tool for engineers, designers, and researchers who need both raw power and rock-solid reliability.
