I have had the opportunity to start using Quicksurface which is a little different to what I’m used to, but first impressions are good.
I’m used to parametric modelling with the likes of Inventor, Fusion 360, Solidworks etc and Quicksurface has a few similarities, but also a few differences.
Now, squeezing this project in after getting home from work has taken longer than I wanted, but this includes watching tutorials and finding my way round the new software, misunderstandings and re watching tutorials.
The scan is a particularly lazy one of a MAF Body for an S-Type Jaguar. It was black plastic and I was getting used to my POP2 just over a year ago and using dry shampoo.
I think it’s fair to say this one is strictly average.
On opening Quicksurface 6.0.87 there is the perfect opportunity to head off to the tutorials, which if you haven’t used this software, I strongly advise.
Click on “Learn from tutorials…”
And then “Go to full tutorials page”
There is a comprehensive list of tutorials as well as the option to download the cad files that are referred to within them.
After browsing the tutorials knowing I should have paid more attention, I settled on this one to help me with my project, it had enough information but I’ll need to increase my proficiency and watch the previous videos.

There is a very useful analysis option which can be used either during or after model creation which shows deviation between CAD and scan
Its not been all been plain sailing and some issues I’ve had, though this may be down to lack of experience:
-
There appears to be no “Extrude to” or "Cut to " style command.
-
It would be nice to see better Boolean commands, and trimming commands that behave more like the main cad software I’ve used
-
Some of the video tutorials appear to be for a slightly older version so it would be good if these were updated.
I’ll continue to go back over the videos as I’m sure its just down to getting the correct workflow and design intent with the modelling.
