Is there a way to set level of quality in the Full Field? Like in previous scanners High detail/Standard/High speed? Asking because so far all the scans are very disappointing - far below my original Miraco and that is unacceptable for me. I assume I’m stuck in some low quality setting but I can’t see a way to change it . Also my exposure goes only up to 10, which is way too low to see any black objects - is that really the maximum value? Again I expected much more

PS Also - is there any reason why color scanning is not on by default? Can’t count the number of scans I did just to realize that I had color scanning off Is there any cost of scanning with color data even if I don’t need it?
I have a couple of other scanners and in case of black objects - pop4 is definitely the worst
As to color scanning - I understand not many users use color scanning, but would they mind if it was on? Or better yet - how about Revoscan just remember if the last scan was made with color or without?

I have to disagree , it perfectly capture dark plastic even in other than laser mode , after all it can scan in full sun light , other scanners can’t because they have lower laser power .
It was scanned without setting on dark object just on standard Auto settings
I saw your other thread , I guess you land in a loop regarding your calibration , I recommend you contact customer@revopoint3d.com since it looks like your scanner is not calibrating correctly and the files need to be adjusted in your calibration folder as it can’t be overwritten .
When you choice Color/Full Field it will use color tracking , it generate indeed huge files and the processing is very long , if the object don’t have unique color pattern it will struggle not only with the tracking but also generate proper the model .
Scanning with Full Field objects that are uniform in color is better without color or with marker mode.
This new technology seems to confuse people.
POP 4 can scan a flat picture in color mode without losing any tracking thanks to color tracker selected in the begining of the scanning . So it is not just ( Color scan ) it is color tracking as well .
If anybody really need a better geometry they should avoid color scanning option if that object don’t have proper color pattern .
That’s the reason why some find the color scans less accurate because they choose the wrong settings on wrong objects.
You can perfectly use laser mode for Max accuracy , and texture it after , then you get perfect result from both worlds .

In FullField mode, not Color tracking mode, Revoscan is using color data for tracking???
Why? The color data is so unreliable, you’ve got changes in exposure, color, speculars - why would you use that for tracking in FullField??? Is that a new thing?
I never heard of that approach - color data was always just additional data that could be later converted to a texture - it didn’t matter how good or bad it was for the quality of the scanned mesh itself :o

Yeah, there is no way mine can do that.
I set it to dark object, dept camera exposure to the max and the black plastic objects don’t even show up in the preview.
I do have to sort out the problem with calibrating my unit, but I doubt calibration has anything to do with the dynamic range of the depth camera
Yes it does, I actually scanned flat pictures on the turntable .
POP 4 have now a new technology , the Hybrid use even 2 projectors now , dots and structure lights NIR .

But it should scan dark objects properly unless that surface is very absorbing regardless of its color.
Check with the technician they need your logs.

You scanned the flat photos in color tracking mode - not Full Field, that makes sense.
But you said Pop4 uses color data for tracking during Ful lFIeld scanning?
So far Pop4 is mediocre at everything I test it with.
I’m having a hard time believing it, I was always super happy with all the Revopoint scanners I bought, but this is just so bad
I really can’t recommend this scanner to anyone - for every single use you can find a much better scanner.
Sure it can scan in full sun - but this mode works only in VCSEL mode - and this is the lowest quality mode on Pop4 - so if you’re scanning anything smaller than a full body person, the scan quality is laughable.
I’m still talking to support, I’ll see what they say about the calibration.
All things in your showcase are really big, so there is no way of telling how much detail there is in there. My resolution test pyramid is 50mmx50mm. The best detail in your showcase I see is in the 11inch boot, but even there the individual teeth from the zipper are non existent
For laser scanning the american cocroach would probably be the closest match - seriously, you have 5cm long roaches??? I’m not sure if your scan is more detailed than mine, but it is definitely cleaner so that needs investigating
Anyway, the last comparable Revopoint scanners I had was Pop2 and Miraco - and honestly I see almost no progress in scanning quality and in some tests even a regression.
That is definitely a first for me considering 3d scanners. Till now, each new scanner was a large improvement over the last one, even with bad calibration, letting me sell the old one. This time I don’t see that happening
Pop4 is so confusing.
I found that for some reason the depth camera in VCSEL mode had much bigger dynamic range than in Full field.
This allows for easier scanning of objects that have both black and metalic parts:
This also transfers somewhat to the hybrid mode.
Great, I could scan my camera like that, even if the scan is lower res.
Unfortunately it seems that the tracking in VCSEL mode was designed with large objects in mind, so it absolutely fails with small objects.
Kept loosing track and had trouble regaining it all the time - Full field mode, or other scanners for that matter had absolutely no trouble tracking this camera - even if they had trouble scanning it.
Fine - I’ll use marker mode then, always a good way to stabilize a hard to track object.
Nope - Hybrid and VCSEL don’t support markers.

Yes they are huge , but they don’t living inside homes , mostly gardens , they can come in the house by mistake at night through the window but not settle down , the one I scanned was from my insect collection , but I saw real one many times at night outside .
I talked with the team about your issue , they thought it was user error but I made sure it was not .
When I add my showcase it was in early beta things was not even ready yet , please make sure you mention all of it to the technician at CS , it is important
Did you try to throw in some orientation gimmicks, anyway?? … just to add some easily capturable geometry, even if the marker points are not explicitly supported.
