Gaussian Splatting model not only preserves shiny surfaces of the metal but also transparency of the glass object allowing actually to see inside in 3 dimension
I wanted to provide some additional details regarding the 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) models and share some best practices for achieving the best results with this mode.
Please note that all the 3DGS models were created using the Hybrid + Color scanning mode. When creating these models, volume accuracy is more critical than fine scan details. To ensure a high-quality 3DGS model, I recommend placing your object against a solid-color background free of other items. Proper lighting is essential; please set your exposure and white balance to manual once you are satisfied with the camera preview at the optimal scanning distance.
During the scan, move slowly from the top down and back up to capture every angle and corner. Once the scan is complete, fuse the object using the recommended settings and clean the model thoroughly to remove any artifacts. Since 3DGS generates models based on volume, any missing data will be ignored. After fusing, mesh the model at the recommended settings, ensuring you close all possible holes and remove any loose parts.
The generation process in High Quality typically takes about 30 minutes on an RTX 4060, though this will vary depending on your hardware. Once generated, you can edit the model to remove unwanted parts and export it as either a .ply or .splat file. I recommend .ply for most web previews.
3DGS models are excellent for digital catalogs and VR because they accurately capture colors, reflections, and transparency without requiring complex material settings or specialized rendering software. Furthermore, tools like Blender can convert these into 3D OBJ models, and while Revo Scan allows for standard exports, the 3DGS conversion often provides superior results.
I hope you find these tips helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding 3DGS.
Today a simple test scanning a bottle without any markers using Hybrid mode and color for tracking , indeed I did not lost any tracking while scanning what is a huge improvement. This means POP 4 can be used as a tool to scan and generate 3DGS models for Online Stores Catalogs and Web.
