New to the forum - looking for inspire feedback

Hi- I’m creating shipping protection corners for some picture frames. I need a portable scanner to bring on site to scan the frame corners which I intend to print corner protection ‘sleeves’ do you think the inspire can handle this?

What is so special or unique about he corners of these picture frames? I feel you are over complicating a solution. This is the engineer in me talking…

That being said, yes, you could scan the corner of a picture frame. Be aware that the color/gloss of the frame could cause issues with the scan and need some sort of scanning spray to achieve desired results. Can you post some example pictures of a frame?

Also you need to be aware of what the scanner will provide you. You will end up with a point cloud or a mesh file. That file needs to be brought into a separate program to design your corner protector around. Many think that this is a magical device, but it is a tool and requires practice and patience to create good usable scans. Having some proficient cad skills is helpful. There are a few different programs that can be used to do reverse engineering of scans. Quicksurface or Xtract3d are to common ones. Fusion360 has some good tools as well for working with meshes.

I think Inspire will be ok , if you scan very small frames maybe POP3 Plus will be better.
Make sure the frames can’t be shiny, metallic or reflective or painted black
You will need to use 3D spray

Also scanning symmetrical objects will require markers or additional objects for stabilization.

Seriously you will get cheaper to pay someone to model that frame covers than make them from scans.

Thanks for this. The frames are all custom-made and are all different. Some squared off, others ornate carvings, some beveled or multi-leveled. I appreciate the note about the additional cad/3d skills that will be required - I’m excited to try this and learn something new. I wound up purchasing the pop3plus as it was the only one I could get shipped in time for the test I need to do. I have time to experiment and return the scanner if it doesn’t work out.

Post up in here when you get your scanner and start scanning. We are all here to help and there is a lot of experienced users on here. There will be a learning curve to get through, so don’t get discouraged. Ask detailed questions, pictures are very helpful.

Thanks a lot! Once I dig in im sure I’ll have feedback and questions.
