MetroY Pro Color Scan?

So… To get some more practice with my MetroY Pro I intended to do a Color Scan of a fairly large Model - Not necessarily too heavy for the 2-Axis Turntable to deal with but definitely too large.

Problems just… It appears the Color Scanning Mode is somehow ONLY available when doing an Automatic Turntable Scan?

The below Screenshot of the Product Page of a Robot Arm doing a Color Scan KINDA got me the impression that a Handheld Color Scan would be possible too? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Is a Handheld Color Scanning mode in the works ( or is already present but requiring a Cheat Code ala :up_arrow::up_arrow::down_arrow::down_arrow::left_arrow::right_arrow::left_arrow::right_arrow::a_button_blood_type::b_button_blood_type::ok_button: to unlock? )

Also a question concerning Lighting… I believe it is mentioned that for Scanning one should not scan under harsh lighting conditions ( like outside with the Sun out )… How about the opposite like for those of us living in a cave? Does poor / barely existing lighting effect the Scanning of Objects? ( all of my room lighting is indirect lounge style lighting with the only “proper” Light Source being a somewhat P.i.t.A. to handle 3D Printed 360° Arc Lamp I made for Scale Modelling )

Currently there is not a color scanning using laser modes or Full Field, the only color mode is Auto Turntable mode .
And I heard nothing about if there will be ever color scanning using other modes .

Auto mode is not a handheld mode or Full Field mode , it is a separate mode that scans objects differently than Full Field, so things like "unlocking color " will not working .

Sorry for not having a good news for you today. Scanning + colors with Blue light laser is a pain to begin with and so impractical , because yellow, red and orange tones absorbs too much blue light so not even recommended . Blue light scanning as always works the best with 3D spray or no contrast colors .

The best results is scanning in complete darkness , it is not a photogrammetry, it don’t need light , it has their own .
Avoid strong window lights and string led yellow lights . How darker how better

I have noticed that a dark space is better too with the MetroX. I have all my windows cardboarded up and the windows in the door are north facing. Having said that, it seems I get better scans at night. Probably should turn off the monitors that face it too, but I don’t.

Any yellowish light is not good to scan using blue light scanners , so always better in controlled light environments, all my scans usually was done in a darkness unless I did color scanning.

Wait - I signed up here to ask this same question – am I to understand that I just spent $1600 on a ‘pro’ scanner, boasting “Real Color, Real Results”, that doesn’t actually really do color, unless it’s something small enough to fit on the turntable? Is that a programming deficiency/oversight, or just false advertising? I find it hard to believe that it can’t detect colors unless the object is spinning.

Will warranty cover whatever happens from parking a 4200 pound truck on that turntable? Seems a bit overkill for trying to map out graphics placements.

Capture detailed surface textures for vivid, realistic 3D visualization using MetroY’s HD RGB camera. Its data integrates with Revo Measure, enabling precise measurements and the creation of clear, professional reports.”

Do your large object scan, then use that scan to hang photogrammetry data on, eg take a lot of pictures. There is open source and free software that allows you to do this. If you use polarised light, you can pull really good albedo colour form, and everything is scaled correctly. I have done this for a company, making a wrap for a van. Now, with that being said, go and find out how to do it yourself, as I’m not here to spoon-feed you. I am too dam busy

Thanks - that is pretty much what I’m trying to do, and glad there are some workarounds to make it possible - the infuriating part of it all, though, is that the sales page literally has a video of this scanner doing exactly what I’m trying to do… “but it can’t do that”. Thanks for taking a moment to give me some hope.
