MetroY Pro people scanning - eye safety?

Hi all…looking for advice on scanning a full body real-life person in full color

I have used structured light scanners before and for scanning people, those are fine (just flashing lights). I have a Metro Y Pro coming soon and I also have an Inspire 2, and have a need for scanning some people, in full color. What is the best hardware/software combo to use to do this?

The Metro Y Pro has the full field scanning, but doesn’t that use the main laser technology? If so, that is a class 2M laser which is not the best for ultimate eye safety. Would it be best for detail to scan the body with the Metro Y Pro (with the user wearing goggles) then scan the face with something like the Inspire 2 that has a class 1 laser? (then could those scans be merged with full texture/color?)

The Full Field uses 1 M Class laser it is safe for the eyes .

How you going to scan a full person in color when only Auto mode ( for small objects ) uses color scanning . Other modes don’t have color modes.

MetroY Pro is not made for scanning full body humans , as the best results you get is scanning smaller sections of 1 m at a time , so even if you do scan a full body with Full Field , the size of the scan will be so huge that it will be automatic reduced in size to prevent crashing of your system while meshing .

I did scanned faces around 8 inches and it used almost 43 GB of RAM at full quality .

Have fun with that challenge

Thanks for the info! I will do some testing and if I have to go back to the expensive scanning software with my other scanner, I will do so.

Additionally, the Metro Y Pro only mentions a Class 2 laser, not Class 1 at the bottom of this page (Revopoint MetroY Pro: Wireless Blue Laser 3D Scanner)…do you know where it says the Metro Y Pro has a class 1 laser? I certainly don’t want to hurt anyone’s eyes!

Full Field and Auto mode is not a laser , it is blue light DLP same as Mini 2 class 1

Since it uses class 2 laser in the laser modes it needs the warning . The other don’t need any warning since it is safe .

You don’t going to hurt anybody with Full Field but make sure they do not suffer from epilepsy since flashing lights can be discomfort even for regular people .

@PUTV
Thank you for the Informations about the option to scan persons in Full Field mode.
One Question Regarding the file size:
Is there any possibility to reduce the Resolution before scanning to make the scan less RAM and File size hungry in Full Field mode?
Thank you.

Hi @HSN

You can’t reduce the resolution before scanning , but the RAM is mostly used while Fusing , so use the fusing at 0.2-0.3 mm to reduce the usage of RAM , if you get lower it will blow off everything you have at that size .

Save your project before fusing just in case before processing . Start from the head only and use only Full Field or Auto mode , when using Auto mode move slightly the subject in a rotating chair each time the frame is captured .

Awesome!
Thank you very much for the Informations.
I will try it with the settings and procedure as suggested.
