I’m new at this. I just got my Metro Y (not plus). And I’m trying it out. The software is Revo Metro 5.8.0. I’m attaching a picture of the pill jar I’m using for a subject. The band that isn’t appearing in the scan is a very dark green, not black. I don’t think it’s any shinier than the white plastic of the jar. I tried cross lines, parallel lines, and single lines, and they all miss that dark band.
Can one tell me settings to use that will do this? (I’m new enough that I don’t even know what settings are there.)
Scan the object first the way you did at first to capture all the white parts , then pause and change the laser brightness to higher then continue scanning , if still missing the dark parts increase the laser brightness .
It should do it .
What I do personally in this case , I use a brush with a liquid 3D spray and paint the dark areas before scanning , after I am done the 3D spray is gone and the scan have a nice smooth surface without different levels .
White surface reflects much stronger than from darker surfaces for that reason contrast color surfaces should be scanned with 3S spray to avoid changing in accuracy .
You can use also little of baby powder with a rubbing alcohol and brush it off after the job is done if you are on a budged.
First you refer to a supplement bottle in your first post , so you got tips for that .
Second you will need to use Laser mode for your music instrument , there is nothing else you can do since we all know , 3D spray can’t be used on music instruments .
Now if the ebony color is natural color painted on the wood , there will be not much issues with any modes , but if the top layer is synthetic or wax , you will need to use a laser mode
Test out what level is needed on small fragment , adjust just the laser brightness first , if not enough adjust slowly the depth camera exposure but don’t get too high so you don’t lose the markers , if they turn red stop adjusting higher level under depth camera exposure .
You can also change the setting before scanning to Dark object under the settings to increase additional laser brightness if needed .
Capture lots of frames per section and at least 8K for good result per section until it turn green .
Thanks so far. Object type “Black Object” helped. The dark band started to appear. I’m using maximum Laser Brightness and Depth Exposure. Of course, I have no idea what “Depth Exposure” is about. (And I don’t understand what the “Depth Camera” is about.)
“Laser mode”??? The only appearance of the word “Laser” on the screen is in the phrase “Laser Brightness”. Is there a “Laser Mode” and some other mode?
Yeah Laser mode , Full Field, Auto mode .
But forgot you just have MetroY , so no other modes just Laser in your device .
Depth Camera is a camera sensors that capture your object .
Depth Camera exposure is the amount of laser light that reaches the camera’s sensor to create an image, and it determines the overall brightness or darkness of the captured image .
It is recommended to don’t over expose too much the scanning object because it can influence how the markers are visible and risk potential lose of tracking .
Higher exposure should be used mostly on dark objects , and not as much on objects with contrasted colors like black and white .
Why? Because if you put too high exposure the sensors can become blind and will not see anymore the white part of the object , so use with caution .
