MetroY Mac support

Do you have a beta that we can test until the real version comes out?

Hi @dino

Sorry , it is not available for the public .

Just adding my support for a MacOS version. My new MetroY is a paper weight right now.

And I do have a question about the upcoming Mac version. Will it be a native Apple Silicon MacOS app, or will it run on Apple’s x86 translation layer (Rosetta 2)?

Thanks

Reached out with my concerns as well. Has anyone returned their MetroY since the launch date seems unknown?

Hi @jfresh01

It will be available in December , that’s all I know .

I suggest you share your feedback direct with customer@revopoint3d.com , your voice matter.

Any indication whether it will be a native Apple Silicon app or not? This will help my laptop purchase to use with the Metro Y.

Thank you!

Hi @willstones

I don’t think it will be native Apple Silicone app , but I will ask tonight in the office to confirm it to be sure.

@PUTV Okay thank you. If so it is not going to work beyond MacOS v27 then. Apple have said it will no longer support Rosetta apps in v28+. This is important to know when buying hardware to use with Revopoint scanners.

Thank you for your help!

Hi @willstones

R&D team is aware of this and I reported that already as well.

Thank you for your feedback!

Please provide an update on the release of the macOS software.

Hi @macscot56 the Mac software of Revo Metro will be released soon , there is not exact date yet of the release . But it should not take much longer .

The support told me it’s planned to release it on the 5th of December. Hope that’s true…

I did not hear the exact date yet , so I can’t confirm that . But I will ask again today if it is true.

Ok I can confirm the release for Dec.5th

Yes it is available now to download

A important note to all new MetroX owners! please use only Revo Metro for your MetroX scanners , especially if you use Mac version , you will be not able to connect to your computer if you use the old Mac software if Revo Scan MetroX

Hurrah! It works fine on my M2Max 16ā€ 2023 MBPro

Captures at around 48fps for cross lines, black object. The hardware rates at ā€œAverageā€ in the speed test, obviously only CPU is measured.

Here’s a GoPro remote scan I just did. The fusion (HQ .25mm) took about 2 mins per scan, both including the turntable. That’s a bit slower than my PC laptop, with RTX 5070 Ti. Merging and meshing were pretty rapid due to the small size of the remote.

It’s nice to have options now. I’ll probably stick to scanning with the PC for now, even though it does make quite the racket while scanning and fusing. The MacBook doesn’t break a sweat so I’m guessing there is actually a bunch of optimisation that could be done on the CPU processing, but I guess that’ll be down the priority list.

No bugs spotted so far (sorry for jinxing it)

Does this now mean that M-series Mac’s are a viable option for good performance?
If so would an M5 Macbook Pro with 32GB make for a decent platform? Or Better to get a Mac Mini with an M4 Pro/Max ?

Basically I got my MetroY Pro this week, not used it yet - will be trying it tomorrow for the first time with my aging PC (i5–9400f, 32GB).
I was fully expecting to need to upgrade, but the current DRAM crisis has thrown me. It is now making it impossible to buy a half decent upgrade for anything like reasonable money staying on PC platform :frowning:

I can’t really give you useful advice there. I have only two datapoints. A 2025 MSI Core Ultra 9 MAJOR 16 X1 laptop with 12GB RTX 5070 Ti and 32GB RAM running on GPU is noticeably quicker than a 2023 M2 Max MBPro with 96GB RAM. How they stack against a lesser modern PC laptop or a MBPro or Mini with M4 or M5 but less RAM? Hmmm dunno.

Hopefully your old PC will tide you over long enough for more Mac users to try it out and give you a better feel for your next move.

As a newcomer to this platform, I recently acquired the MetroY Pro 3D scanner, which is my first experience with such technology.

My system is equipped with an M1Max processor with 32GB of RAM, and during scanning, it maintains a frame rate of approximately 14 to 20 frames per second. Despite this, the scanner has been functioning flawlessly without any apparent issues.

In the near future, I intend to upgrade my system to a new M4Pro 20-core GPU with 48GB of RAM on a MacBook, which I believe will enhance its performance significantly. I am optimistic that this upgrade will result in improved scanning capabilities.
