Metal top (Magnetic) for the dual axis turntable

Is there a metal top available for the Dual Axis turntable, so I can use these markers I’ve made with little magnets in the bottom?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!
There is no official one , you might have to get it done yourself. If you do, please share :slightly_smiling_face:

Just ordered this from Amazon.

I’ll sticky it to the turntable, and have the little plastic cover with markers on it, I’ll glue on top.

We’ll see how it works.

Stainless can be non-magnetic. I don’t recall the details, but it’s something to be aware of. I might make something to mount on it. The bolt holes are 6mm on 100mm centers.

Right now I have a couple of little magnet holders screwed down. Works decently well. I was considering a frame to mount on it.

Well, crap, it looks like 316 steel is NOT magnetic. I’ll have to find something else.

I see that some folks have 3D printed little brackets that screw into those bolt holes. I was wanting something a little more flexible.

For now, I’m just using sticky dots.

It looks like AliExpress might have some round build plates that might work.

We’ll see…

You can cut sheet metal with tin snips and clean up with a file or grinder.

I’m using some of the stick putty. It can be useful stuff.

I made a plate of spring steel, and covered with carbon foil.

what diameter did you make it?

Diameter is 300mm

If you buy a magnetic printing plate for the 3D printer, the magnet for gluing is often included

I think there is such a foil on the Maker Block Kit (Magnetic) as well.

I found that Wham Bam (yes, it appears to be a legit website), has 200mm round plates. Shipping was as much as the parts. But I think these will work out well.

I’ll report back when they show up.

Just get yourself magnetic sheets on Amazon , some come with adhesive and you can create new magnetic surface for your markers to avoid sliding down .

How about this? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006787615550.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.21.16a42uMM2uMMCW&algo_pvid=39bd1a0b-3c0d-4c0b-9ac5-de2fab6c5239&algo_exp_id=39bd1a0b-3c0d-4c0b-9ac5-de2fab6c5239-10&pdp_npi=4%40dis!GBP!24.45!15.89!!!29.87!19.41!%4021039a5b17355604296102046e22b3!12000038301493389!sea!UK!714210024!X&curPageLogUid=4C70QMgM2XWT&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A
It’s a 200mm diameter spring steel build plate for a delta 3D printer. You could then stick that to the DATT with double-sided tape.

magnetic sheet cut with co2 laser

Does that magnetic sheet have magnetic polarity? In other words, will half of my magnetic markers want to repel themselves from the sheet and the other half want to stick, because I wasn’t concerned about the polarity of the magnets as I installed them in my markers? I also see “magnetically receptive” sheets on amazon that aren’t magnetic but magnets are supposed to be able to stick to them.

I am trying to avoid ordering something from sendcutsend. Obviously an actual metal top would be better but sendcutsend has a $30 minimum so I would need to order 4 or more. I’d much rather order a magnetic sheet and cut it with my Cricut or have my buddy with a CO2 laser cut it for me.

My magnetic foil sticks to a magnet on both sides.

Whelp, I got the parts in from Wham Bam. I bought one of each, just to see what would work.

There is a metal, what they call the Flexi Plate (what would typically be the removable build plate for a 3D printer. It’s all metal, no adhesive sheet or build surface, just plain metal, picture bottom left and right), a magnetic sheet (picture top right), which has an adhesive sheet on the back, and then a PEI type sheet (picture top left, which has an adhesive sheet on the back. Probably could use it as a marker sheet, if you remove the logo).

I 3D printed a bunch of marker holders, which have little magnets installed. They stick far better to the metal plate, than they do to the magnetic sheet (even tried both sides of the magnetic sheet, just to test North and South)

The metal sheet is pretty much perfect, and fits really well. I’ll stick some adhesive on it to glue it to the turntable, and then glue the marker sheet to it. The magnets for my markers still stick really well, even with the marker sheet on top. I got it for the for a whopping $4, totally worth it (shipping was more than the part)

I think this is probably the most perfect off the shelf solution that I’m going to find. (software is still buggy, but working through it)
