Is there a section/slice view mode that I can use to select this stuff without having the stuff behind the camera also selected with select through?

What the title says. I’ve scanned a sculpture of dragon head and there’s some errant bits inside of the mouth, but if I zoom in far enough to select it with the lasso tool, it also selects stuff behind the camera. If I try to select it from outside the mouth, it gets stuff behind what I’m actually trying to select.

The selection only works with the position of the normals to the camera .
You already unchecked the sides selection in the tool so there is not much you can do .

Try to use isolation tap to get rid of isolate polygons after Fusing for best results , or try after meshing .

There is sadly no slicer/view to access isolated points other than Isolation tab .

Hello Lulzigi!

I do this kind of stuff with CloudCompare. With CloudCompare you can section out and keep both. So just cut out the section with the waste, then sect out the waste and fuse the remaining together again.
Works like a charm.

If you need help, just ask.

Greetz!

This is the way

Try to find an angle that lets you select what you want to cut then de-select whatever was caught behind it.
