Has anyone upgrade to MetroY Pro from a MetroX?

I am thinking while there is still a Black Friday discount, is it worth upgrading from a MetroX to a MetroY Pro? Has anyone done this exact upgrade? If yes, do you feel it was worth it?

If not, what was your reason for not upgrading–other than cost?

Hi @1bigpig

I personally upgraded for my private job and paid with my own money , and I don’t regret it, there is no comparison .

The laser modes are so fast ( double faster ) and that should be the number one reason for upgrading .

If I used just Full Field or Auto mode I would not upgraded , but the laser modes was worth it all together. And my MetroY Pro unit is also better in Auto mode than my Mini 2 .

If you going to sell your MetroX, it will be all worth it .

I just ordered a MetroY Pro yesterday and will have my MetroX for sale shortly. The ‘X works very well, I’m hoping for more out of the ‘Y.

I used Revopoint’s trade-in program. The Metro-Y’s increased speed (laser mode) makes it worth the upgrade. As noted above, the structured blue light mode is the same (pro version) so if that’s your primary use with the Metro-X then it’s a questionable upgrade.

One thing to note, the increased speed means the computer you use also need to be more robust to capture date at that rate. My laptop was fine with the Metro-X but was not powerful enough for the Metro-Y. YMMV

tradeup program? I didn’t see that?

My laptop is an i9-12950hx w/ 64GB and the A4500 quadro video card. Should be fine…no?

You will be fine Robin , the software is upgraded to collect faster the frames as well , it works still fine on my older i9 10th Gen 64GB PC as well .

The laser modes use around 30-40 Mbps while scanning in the laser mode using GPU acceleration and over 250 Mb for each single shot frame (+ color) .

Full Field uses the least data since the frame have 8 millions points per second .

When I looked into it, it was only $400 off and you were responsible for the return shipping cost to China.

Don’t forget you have to pay export tax as well when sending it back to China so additional $40-60 will get off from your pocket beside shipping costs that are not cheap either , since shipping costs are on you .

Not really worth $200 discount , you can sell yourself for more as MetroX still holding market value well and is more valuable than MetroY standard amongst users.

not worth it, I’ll sell it on the open market. My ‘X is in perfect condition.

I just sent mine to Califorina, no export tax. You still may get more on the open market, but the trade-in program was convenient and I didn’t have to deal with scammers.

Ah, that’s an improvement.

You are correct , forgot about the new office in Cali ! I thought they only collects returns purchased via Amazon US.

No & I won’t. When I sold my POP2 it didn’t bring in much at all. I still have an Inspire which was never even unwrapped, and I haven’t been able to sell it - it just sits in the closet taking up valuable space. Seems that Revopoint is coming out with new models so frequently that there isn’t much market for used (or even new) units here. Comes a point where you’re loosing too much money with frequent “upgraded models” that you need to sit on what you got, be happy with it, and wait until a truly new product (vs a newer model) comes to market that your needs can justify the expense. For me, the MetroX is just fine for now.

I did upgrade from new Metro X that I owned for about half year, to brand new Metro Y pro.
Well.. I didn`t expected that “pro” stands just for more issue and even sluggish software..
Do not own a monster , but notebook with i9-14400K, 64Gb DDR5 , RTX4070 8G, 4tb NVME PCIE4.0 with 7000 Mbs read and 5000 write seems reasonable for the task IMHO..
And yet with Metro X, and it dedicated software, switch between modes took about 5-8sec..
Here with that “new” scanner and dedicated to Y-pro software easily goes to 20sec!!

Just to mention, that the Metro software is forced to USE the GPU not to jump between CPU/GPU and something else.. as same setting was done to the previous Metro X software!
And despite the fact I have Tunderbold and USB-C 3.1 that I can transfer data on external NVME with almost 800Mbs, here with metro it operate as I start using again DX166 CPU and early Windows 95..
Despite that fun, I still can not make it to run in full field mode (what ever I try), and work in some slow speed on cross or parallel lines.
Only in marker points mode with cross lines I get about 40fps..and actually to be able to scan kind a properly.
Before Revopoint I had small CR34L1TY 3D scanner, and seems small objects on a small rotary table without any BT control was not issue at all to get scan and color.
Don’t mind color , but wish to have properly working functions and speed what that device`s price actually demand.

As to someone who still have the metro X and it work good for him, better to check some negative reviews and tests where that new device have issue and then to consider the risk.

Hi @LongGo

The software do not force to use anything , your settings will be not ignored , you choice GPU it use GPU and it will not switch between CPU or GPU by itself because that’s not what it doing .

The GPU is exclusively used only for scanning and nothing else and I am using the same laptop specs as yours with RTX 4060 and zero issues regarding the speed .

But when you use portable hard driver that’s where problems starts , I tried too , it don’t works well as it is designed to use the fastest system driver for best performance , I would avoid it for now.

Choice a system hard driver and test it out again to insure it is not the portable driver doing the slow down .

As I mentioned my graphic card is much slower and completely no issues with speed and I reach optimal speed with CPU or GPU .

If still issues , please contact customer@revopoint3d.com for technical appointment to check out what is really going on because definitely it should not works this way . It maybe the system it may be the hardware it may be your portable HD , hard to find out via forum . You will be helped for sure to get the best results .

The issue you have starting the Full Field are already indicator that something is not right and that need CS attention. Don’t wait !

I use it everyday I know what it can do or not and in what exactly speed. Remember it use double the speed and data than MetroX and I can’t use it with a portable HD either .

Thank you for the tips..
I don`t mean to use external HDD/NVME for any scan or other data in relation to Revo Software!
If for some reason it come like that - my apologies! My intend was to point out, that all ports are running fine on turbo speed, and with Metro X software and hardware I did not have that much trouble.
On the same machine I use CAM/CAD software and even with more heavy software it fly compared to that Revo Software.. And let me be a bit more clear - do not expect the mesh-ing process to be in milliseconds! Just Switching between menus or mode take quite some time that shouldn`t be.
And as you correctly pointed out - something is going on hardware level in the scanner, so that`s why I actually just writing my mail to the tech support..
Thank you again for your post!

That’s correct , the double amount of data don’t makes it that fast when using CPU as the CPU processing the scans not GPU so very true.

Sometimes I have to wait 30 min for mesh to be processed but that are huge 150K poly scans .

Check your CPU processing making sure all cores are active with i9 14th Gen.

The switching between the modes are not instead and they never was but 20 sec is little too long . Since we running on the same systems you should definitely have much faster experiences overall. No doubt about it.

And please never apologize, I am here for you making sure you get all the need support , please update me on the CS progress and if you don’t get any reply in 24 h let me know .
