I’m a new user of RevoScan, but I have an extensive background in 3D modeling and camera tracking, and I’m accustomed to working with software packages that prioritize customizability and user-centric workflows. Coming in with a fresh perspective, I immediately noticed a few UI and visual feedback elements that, if improved, could significantly enhance the overall user experience in RevoScan.
1. UI Customization
One of the first things I noticed was the lack of flexibility in the user interface. Ideally, users should be able to fully customize window layouts — including the ability to drag, resize, and rearrange panels. This level of control allows users to tailor the workspace for optimal precision and comfort.
2. Background Color Options
I’ve seen others mention this, but the ability to change the background color would be very helpful. A neutral gray, for instance, is easy on the eyes and great for inspecting details. A simple slider to adjust the background tone from dark to light would make a big difference. Currently, the default dark gray can obscure shadow details or surfaces that are perpendicular to the camera, making inspection more difficult.
3. Shader and Color Swatch Customization
Allowing users to change the default shaders of the mesh/point cloud display would also be a major improvement. While there are some preset color swatches, they cannot be customized — which feels limiting. In many cases, repositioning the light is the only way to get a better view, which isn’t always ideal. Giving users more control over shader and lighting appearance would improve visibility and workflow efficiency.
4. Locked Perspective View
Finally, it would be extremely helpful to have an option to lock the current perspective view during model selection. Right now, every time a different model is selected, the view automatically zooms out, which disrupts visual alignment and focus. When switching between models, you’re often making side-by-side visual comparisons, and this forced zoom-out makes the process more disorienting and time-consuming. A toggle that locks the current view — unless the user manually navigates or adjusts it — would go a long way toward creating a more seamless editing experience.
I really appreciate your time and attention to user feedback. Hopefully some of these suggestions can be taken into account in future releases — I’m excited to see how RevoScan evolves.
