Okay, I was able to do another test. Unfortunately, my repeater only does support the 2,4 GHz band but I’ve noticed that the repeater wasn’t necessary for the test. The POP2 was listed as connected device on my router and this time it also has been recognized by Revo Scan. I don’t know why it didn’t work last time but maybe because the signal just wasn’t strong enough.
The next curious thing is that now the POP2 also seems to be able to connect to my router even with space letters in the SSID. This is so confusing
However, the issue seems to be gone for some reason but that’s fine!
Now, I probably only have to buy a repeater which also supports 5 Ghz to keep the scanner’s connection straight.
We only knew that {space} characters were not allowed in the password. I have seen no mention of the same requirement for the SSID in official statements.
My repeater supports dual band, but I had to force its connection to the main router to be 5 GHz, so a WiFi connection to the repeater can only be 2.4 GHz. I avoid this limitation by using a wired connection from my computer to the repeater to get maximum speed. You may have to consider this limitation when selecting a replacement.
Well, but it seemed like this also would count for SSIDs as it didn’t work at first try and the SSID didn’t show up correctly in Revo Scan, too. Even the support didn’t confirm that space letters in the SSID were supported when they had answered in this thread.
Do you maybe meant from your router to the repeater? Otherwise I don’t understand why you should connect your PC to the repeater via wire.
I just bought a repeater which uses something called intelligent crossband repeating. This means that as soon as router and repeater support both bands, they are also always connected to each other on both bands. The parallel exchange speeds up the transmission. The individual clients are connected to the repeater either via the 2.4 or 5 GHz band, but benefit from crossband communication.
My home router is from my cable TV/Internet provider; I didn’t pick it. The dual-band connection you described is not available to me unless I replace the home router.
I connect my computer directly to the repeater because that is the fastest connection (1 Gbps). To connect to my repeater wirelessly, I would have to add a WiFi adapter to my computer and that would be slower. Extra money for less speed? No thank you.
