Severely noisy/Messy laser scans with Pop4 - SOLVED (Wireless connectivity issue)

I have been trying to get good or even decent quality 3D scans with the blue laser mode on my pop4 all day. No matter what I do, how I scan, where I scan, what I scan, my results are all extremely messy and low quality. Here are some examples:

I have talked to PUTV, and per their suggestions, I have tried scanning for much longer and more consistently, but no matter what I try, my results are exceptionally noisy and low quality, compared to their tiny coin scan

If anybody knows what could be causing this, please let me know! I have yet to get a single consistent quality scan out of my pop4, and I am not sure if its user error or if my scanner might be out of calibration

Hi! Recalibrating at room temperature you are about to scan might help. But also, try using auto for exposure and brigtness settings first and then you might even lower these settings as it looks like you have a lot of scattering points which might be due to too high settings. I was very surprised by how low I can go and pop4 still picks some difficult surfaces fine. Usually the lower the settings the better.

Thank you! I was assuming my scanner was out of whack for some reason

My settings for the first 2 were admittedly too high exposure wise, but the last one was literally at exposure 1, laser brightness 1. I couldn’t go any darker if I tried

I will have to see if I can figure out how to calibrate my scanner. My desktop PC unfortunately doesn’t have a type C USB, so I might need to rely on my much weaker laptop. I am hoping that it doesn’t need a lot of resources

I just fixed it! I found out my PC does have a type C connector. I plugged it in instead of wireless and it got rid of all of my issues.

This is only 3.2k frames in laser mode now. Sooooooo much better!!!

That’s great! And nice looking scan btw :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks, I managed to get it even better! Lots of learning to do

I see you got finally perfect scan of that cap , great job !

Yes, beautifully done :+1:t3: :white_check_mark:

I wish everyone take the time as you did and don’t give up so easily , I guess now you can move to more dramatic scenarios knowing your scanner will deliver best results. Practice makes it perfect .
