Scanning vehicles with Revopoint POP

ALL right, ran into a couple isisues on the bike issue one it seems my celphone app only allows 810 frames then it force processes 2. flower doesnt stick to chrome apparently so imay end up making a slurry paste because 3. my bike is like 50% chrome. the 810 frames is also an issue because ill have to create the mesh in at least 5 pieces, but will update when able to, good news is the flower worked great on the edges that i was able to apply, i will however have to use dots as well as flower as the system is having trouble tracking without it.

what a rip off! :dizzy_face:I would stick to some diy method then

Honestly youll run in to issues scanning vheicles with anything shy a thousand$ the problem is that most scanner technology relies on light in one form or another and the more precise the insturment generally the greater the effect of distortion on the results even professional generally scan matte and heavily anchored parts/chassis and for a diy solution your still looking 800+ in components for what your after plus youd have to design the pcb to integrate and program in interoperability of the sensors

Revopoint had already posted a video of scanning a car: https://youtu.be/2GPHCrbNdhE Preparing the scan with one of the Aesub products (evaporates completely), like the green version (for large areas and longer time to scan) might work best. This video shows scanning a complete boat using Aesub green: https://youtu.be/QdjBWXYukMA and also a car: https://youtu.be/aYUv-gwod_Q

Why would you want to scan a car without proper textures? Just download a 3D model

Because most 3D models are done by artists and are not dimensionally accurate

Just got mine today, so far I’m pretty impressed. Takes some practice but it’s gonna be awesome!

How long did this section take?

Really cool render

This section was about 5 minutes of playing around. Front bumper of my porsche IROC style, the car is matte white so it worked great

You used markers or not ?

No markers, with the Matte white 3D scanning works well. The issue most will have without a dulling spray is the sensors have a hard time unless it is Matte white. This scan was literally my first try just in my shop with the car up in the air to see what I can do. The data points are dead on and I could use to make parts easily. I have some spray coming to test on shiny parts like my headlights, but I am sure based on this simple test it will work.

HI Achtungkraft
that looks very promising. It is also the best object that a scanner can get under the sensors
But it looks like the air intake wasn’t scanned quite correctly? the upper, outer corner?
And: Have you checked the accuracy? e.g. with a measure based on the width of the turning light.

This was just a quick test, the vent would be perfect if I made sure to do that angle better. From a quick dimensions test (once I scale the model down) it’s pretty close to accurate. I’ll do more tests this week and share

Here Is my first scan for making and building real car parts. Once I scaled it down by 90% it seems almost dead on. I’m going to cut a mold to stamp a steel blank so I’ll be able to tell soon how exact it is

Your scan are awesome :sunglasses:

Nice. My project car is gloss black, with chrome, so I am shit out of luck. Everything I have tried so far hasn’t been very good. Going to try the talc + isopropyl spray soon and see if that works, but its going to make a heck of a mess. And that spray you can buy that evaporates to nothing is over $100 a can here, not going to happen.

Get a can of this stuff, its cheaper and when it dries it allows for me to scan. The side of my car had black decals that once this is dried works wonders. It also washes right off… Aircraft Tool Supply Magnaflux Spotcheck Developer (11.06oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MHYXH7B/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_5XE51Y9B66RKASBT06HT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Looks like it’s not available outside the USA and to get it is over $250 here… Yikes.

Lots of new progress testing the scanner, using body and then scanning a main alignment area (in this case the headlight bucket) I scan, press space bar to pause, align with the bucket in the screen, hit space it aligns then scan more sections. I’m blown away by the quality!
