The ability to transform the model is certainly a step in the right direction; however, the implementation of this feature was a major disappointment for me. I do have an idea, though, on how to significantly improve this function with relatively minor changes:
-
I would like the view to automatically switch to Orthographic mode upon entering transformation mode. In my opinion, performing transformations in Perspective mode is pointless. Upon exiting transformation mode, the view would revert to the previously used mode.
-
I would like a grid to be displayed on the screen in every view (front, left, right, top, etc.) with a scale that remains constant regardless of the current zoom level. The grid spacing could be set individually. Currently, such a grid is visible only in the top view, and its spacing changes as you zoom in or out. The grid should appear in front of the model (like the rule-of-thirds grid on a digital camera display); this would make orienting the model much easier.
-
Currently, the grid disappears when rotating the model and reappears once the operation is complete. In my opinion, the grid should remain visible at all times.
-
Currently, switching the view plane—for example, from left to top—is cumbersome. Introducing keyboard shortcuts for standard views would greatly streamline the workflow. My proposal:
Left view – Ctrl+Left
Front view – Ctrl+Down
Right view – Ctrl+Right
Top view – Ctrl+Up
