MetroX Backer Needs your Insight Here

I am a MetroX backer. I also have the Mini 2. I’m feeling I should sell my Mini 2 to fund the MetroX. Is there anything I will be missing if I do not have my Mini 2 any more? I feel I do not need two scanners. I do not regularly use my Mini 2.

Hi @pinchio

Go ahead , I can’t share comparisons but I can ensure you don’t need MINI after you get MetroX, it is much better on so many levels and much more .

What about deep pockets or smaller holes? The mini series has the cameras very close together so it can see deep into recessed areas. The scans I am seeing from the metrox look good in this regard but is that part as good? You hold the metrox farther away so that might even out the whole cameras angle mathmatics. What are the thoughts on that?

That’s really don’t matter in this case because the Depth sensors are huge compared to MINI , the results are the same .
I have both . My Mini series retired already one month ago and there is no return .

It is even hard to compare , MetroX uses so strong light it is 10 times more powerful and you can scan all colors as well .

If you use Auto mode you going to have even better results from regular Full Field , not to mention bigger FOV .

Don’t regret your decision , you gonna have 4 scanners in one … vs just one that can’t do half the scanning that MetroX offers .

I assume that the only use case left for the Mini is portability. In my case… most likely I’ll donate mine

You can still sell it , it still works good just with lower capacity compared to Metrox. But there is nothing else currently on the market in that price range that is as good as Mini . It is valuable

So I can sell Miraco and Mini 2? After I bought and sold Mini and Pop3?
Guys, you are funny.

Miraco and MetroX complement each other well, the rest is no longer needed. Look at it this way, you don’t drive one car your whole life, do you?

Why would you sell MIRACO ?
That’s not good idea , completely different technology and portable and needed to scan objects size MetroX is not made for .

And why we are funny ?
You can’t compare Mini to Metrox, MetroX are 4 scanners in one with a MEGA "Mini " included … not really Mini just Blue Structures Light Technology but far more advanced than used by Mini .

Zero comparison so worth nothing if you have MetroX.
My Mini series just officially retired …

Exactly, I would never sell my MIRACO , how I am going to scan people or sneak into a museums lol much luck doing that with a PC on your back … :joy:

You are right, but I still don’t buy a new car every three months;-)

If you look at it more closely, you buy a new car every 10 years for 30,000, while you might get a 3D scanner every 2 years for 600 to 700 euros. So, I’d dismiss that comparison at this point.

Just take a look at the showcase, and I think the Metro X suits you very well.

But always be aware that when you buy a 3D scanner, you’re putting down the money knowing what you’re getting for it. Saying afterward that now there’s something better, I find that unfair. The moment you decide to buy it, you’re willing to spend the money for that specification. Not for future products.

MetroX started its first design plans before Range 1 or MIRACO… it was a long process , things don’t happen overnight .
Investment in electronic is the worse investment as things released today are old by tomorrow . And that is with everything on the market , it moving too fast and if you stay behind , you are out of the business .
I remember spending 6K on my graphic cards and 3 months later there was a new better model … That is the world of electronics

I bought 4 Revopoint scanners during 1,5 years;-) Luckily I could resell the ones not needed anymore, a Mini and a Pop3. The fate of an early adopter. I don’t complain, it’s just funny, like an adult toy store.
As my needs are special cultural heritage issues, mostly pottery sherds or hole pots not larger than 50x50x50 cm, I assume that with MetroX I can dismiss Miraco and Mini 2?

But maybe a new SuperMini could awake my desire:-)

Yes for your work it is over with trying … the optimal device finally will give the the expectation and results you needed in both surface and color .

That’s not impossible but I think Blue Structures Light technology reached the maximum here , anything better would limit the scanning size dramatically and eliminating color data . We talking here about 0.01 mm what is hard to archive with just Structured Light technology , many tried and many failed , even Artec using now combination between structured light and Photogrammetry to get better than 0.02 mm

Super Mini is totally unnecessary and if then it will be not portable at all just big heavy stationery box to eliminate any movements. Not what you want .

I don’t know what technology they use, but there are scanners specially designed for coins catching every fine detail sharply.
Maybe a postprocessing AI could get more out of blue light scans.

Probably added photogrammetry to it , Artec did the same , it is not really fully 3D scanning but a hybrid , 3D Plus 2D I can do it in 10 min myself if I want . I am better than any 3D scanner and more accurate

Could you explain us how, maybe even make a tutorial?
