Merge together help

I have a Range 2. I took two scans — one from the top and one from the bottom — in the same project. Then I did all the post-processing work, and now I’m at the point of merging the two. Whether I do it manually or automatically, the merge aligns well, but the bottom face of my part is facing upward instead of downward. I’m not able to invert its position, which would fix the issue. I’ve tried both manual and automatic alignment, but it gives the same result. I also tried several other projects with the same part, and it does the same thing. HELP!

This kind of scans will never align manually or using feature because they don’t share the same features .

You need to use other point cloud editor to manually align the 2 scans

Or scan the bottom with bigger overlap inside at least 10% with at least of 3 the same features on each of the parts

I use Cloud Compare a free software to manually align scans like that .

Hi BUZLIFE, I am somewhat new to this software myself, but from my experience with photogrammetry, the orientation of the finished mesh to an XYZ coordinate system (Giving it a up direction) is done in third-party software like Quicksurface, but there are other options out there, including open source mesh manipulation software.

@BUZLIFE, try adding a third scan that raps from the top surface to the bottom surface. Even though it is obvious to you how the two scans you have should be oriented, mathematically it doesn’t make sense to RevoScan because they don’t share enough geometry. By adding a third scan you can merge your top scan with the new scan (which should have plenty of common geometry with both your top surface scan and your bottom surface scan), and then merge your bottom scan to the newly merged top+wraparound scan.
