i work with 3D scan technology since years,
a big improvement in 3d scanning would be if you are able to activate the possibilities to acquire the marker before scanning, just the marker, then run an optimization and with the marker grid then you can start the scanning process, the result would be much more stable and precise with big objects
this is how it works with expensive scanners such as creaform, scantech etc
it would be a big improvement without changing anything in the hardware !!
