I have had my Miraco Plus for nearly a month now, read every bit, watched every tutorial, tried every setting, with and without spray, experimented with lighting, tried every mode, with and without table, with and without tripod… and still getting garbage scans. Mine never seems to track as well as the tutorial videos show, and when they do, they mesh to something from science fiction.
The primary reason for getting a scanner is to augment my animatronic design work. My hope, for example, was to get dimensionally correct models I could use in Blender or FreeCad to check clearances and tolerances with modeled parts intended for printing. To create the appropriate board mounts and so on.
I spent more hours this morning watching Miraco and RevoScan 6 tutorials, then spent a few more hours producing stuff like this. What I am trying to scan should be doable? Does anyone else scan circuit boards, and 3d print parts with good success?
For circuit boards you are going to get the best results using the turntable and automatic mode or single capture. Adding some scanning spray will help with the gloss of the board.
I know its now what you want to hear, but the Miraco is going to struggle to get very find detail that small. Its a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none. You are better off with a laser for that type of detail. Thats what the Mini was designed for. Single line in the MetroY would also be very good. Someone had a post before scanning some boards, but I cant seem to find it at the moment.
Post up some screen shots of your setup and settings and we can try and help you out. I have a feeling a lot if it is in the settings you are using to fuse and mesh, which is leading to a lot of your blending together.
Thank you both, Nickluvin and PUTV for both your time and your responses. I very obviously failed to do my homework before purchasing the Miraco. I still have the boxes and everything that came with it so I am preparing to sell it. I have a MetroY Pro ordered and is on its way. You need the right tool for the job.
You have to start somewhere. The Miraco is a good scanner, but just not for that particular application. There is a reason a lot of people have multiple scanners. They are tools. Not every tool works for every job. I think you will like the MetroY. Make sure your computer is up for the task, thats an area a lot of people struggle when going to the laser scanners and a big reason the Miraco is so appealing.
It is within the Amazon return window, but seriously there is nothing wrong with the product, I just picked the wrong product. But in good conscience since the error was entirely mine, it seems more proper to try to sell the Miraco outright.
I think I will be Ok on compute power. I have Wifi 7, an Alienware Area 51, Intel CoreUltra 9 285K, 3700 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s), 64 GB RAM, and an Nvidia RTX-5090 graphics processor. I anxiously await arrival of the new Metro the day before my birthday on the 19th. I will be 70. Where did the years go? But I am still having lots of fun.
Sounds like your computer will be just fine. Just wanted to check. A major reason someone would choose Miraco over the Metro series would be because they didnt have a computer powerful enough and wanted to rely on the scanner to do the processing. Looks like that was not true in your case.
Happy birthday and a great gift choice for yourself. Its awesome that you are still exploring and learning new skills. Let us know when you get your MetroY and how the scans turn out.
