Can I assume, that you have you laptop plugged in to power, I notice software on my Asus laptop had better performance with it plugin
Hi @hstewarth
Definitely, you can’t run Turbo/Game mode on battery, it requires to be plugged in for best performance , that includes all laptops.
I use for scanning
Acer Predator Helios Neo 16
i9 14900 HX ( 5.8Ghz Turbo) , 64GB, RTX 4060 8GB, SSD 2 GB
And I paid for it a couple months ago only $1500 as a special offer on Amazon ( new)
To me I think one of the issue maybe the Video card - 8G 4060, when I got a new notebook I desired 12G 4070+ and went for Asus G16 with 5070 ti with 12G of ram
I had XPS 15 with 3050 and I hardly could run Blender on it.
My Asus is about 2/3 as powerful as my Alienware Desktop.
I run on it all Revopoint scanners with optimal results and frames RTX 4060 8GB is just as good here for GPU acceleration and optimal . If you have budged get better , but if not then don’t bother , make sure you have plenty of RAM instead , better investment.
Remember, GPU rendering acceleration is something else here than GPU acceleration used in Revo Scan. 2 different things for 2 different task .
Well my XPS 7520 has 64G ram but I notice that GPU was rarely used. So on system ram how will it used full 64G but unfortunatelky my Asus is fix to max of 32G of ram.
If your laptop isn’t connected to AC power, you’re going to see a reduction in performance. This is common for every laptop I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned more than I can remember spanning over 20 years, almost all of them with dedicated GPUs.
I’ve run a few benchmarks just now on my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, RevoMetro’s Performance analyser pushes my Ryzen 7 5800h CPU all the way to 50W which is the limit set by AMD, this requires AC power in order to select turbo mode. In normal mode it uses 46W, and on battery during the benchmark it uses 38.5W in normal mode (no turbo on battery) - all result in “poor” CPU performance score, I’m fully aware I’m on the minimum requirements so I expected this!
On the GPU test it peaks at just 38W, both turbo and balanced, but on battery where only balanced is available it will reduce power down to 27.4W and results in an “average” score in RevoMetro. My GPU can reach 140w off the top of my head so it’s basically not even warming up but as you can see, all is not equal, the CPU can have >38w on battery, the GPU cannot. This is Lenovo’s implementation of battery management, all makes and even models will handle things differently but all manufacturers reduce performance substantially to protect battery life. My battery for example is (or was, 4+ years ago….) quite an average 80Wh, if my GPU was blasting away at 140w and my CPU was allowed to hit its peak of 50w my battery wouldn’t last 15minutes on a full charge, and no manufacturer wants to put their name to that!
These results are just using the quick built in benchmark, obviously real world tests will be very different and as software versions change, so too will the numbers, but ultimately, you need to be connected to the wall for top performance, but if you absolutely must run on battery, you need a RTX graphics card with the best power efficiency/performance per watt.
My Lenovo Legion 5 Pro said it was limited to 32gb on the specs sheet but I’m running 2x32gb 3200MT CL20 no problem, probably the original bios was limited to 2x16gb but things have moved on, I googled it and found mixed results, I figured it was either pot luck or some people weren’t updating their bios and firmware.
GPU acceleration is used only while scanning if GPU acceleration is selected in Revo Metro with proper RTX graphic card .
It is not used for any other functions since the program is CPU based. This means all processing are done via CPU only as you already know for sure.
Seems like we all got that statement, and only after inquiring directly. Still having to clear US customs, we are a few weeks from seeing it.
Hey it arrived in 3 days from China to USA .. with DHL .. did not expected but DHL was a winner here !
Just received a UPS tracking # for my Y Pro!
Shipped from Malaysia to USA
Same here - just received a UPS tracking # for my Y Pro, shipped from Malaysia to CA/USA
Everyone is back in office , looks like they ( Logistics team) started already and not waiting until Friday
@8igBall5 @6DOF I just hope you will not suffer from UPS customs delays in USA as I did in September , waiting 20 days for clearance .
Crossing my fingers ![]()
I had issues on XPS 7520 with GPU being used in Windows 11, One of reasons why I got my Alienware R16 - it was slow even with Blender.
Still no tracking for me, ordered sept 16, hopefully by tomorrow as they said…
When you say plenty of ram… 4x48gb is enough for big projects ?
Hi @fthouret
I would not get below 64GB of RAM, that’s for sure . Anything more than that is just a blessing ![]()
Received a UPS tracking # for my Y Pro!
Shipped from Malaysia to USA, NYC
UPS is in possession at this point.
Delivery date Friday, October 10 by 9:00 P.M. ![]()
Finally , I am being thinking today about your status with the shipping … good to know
Crossing my fingers
for speedy delivery !
I am in the same region as you , so I hope it will not lingering for too long at the customs after clearance. Shipping it from Malaysia may be just better solution.
Yes I’m hoping the Malaysia origin makes a difference for us all with US customs.
