Hello, sorry if this is a question with an obvious answer but I have just backed a pop 4 scanner and need some laptop advice. My current laptop just died beyond feasible repair so I’m in the market for something new, I’ve fancied something smaller than my old 17inch beast.
Would a smaller 14/15 inch laptop with the onboard Intel GPU still work for the laser mode but low FPS or would it not work at all?
I have a 5080 in an egpu dock so if I need the laser mode I’d normally use that but it would be nice to get the functionality if I’m away from home. I am also put off buying laptops with dedicated rtx cards as supposedly alot have the pcie pass through blocked on the thunderbolt4 ports.
Okay thank you, as I say I have a 5080 in an egpu dock which I will use 99% of the time when doing laser mode but just wondered if an rtx card is an absolute requirement for laser, or just something that makes it not a horrible experience. As to how powerful the CPU is I’m not sure yet as I’ve let to look into a replacement laptop.
Hearing that it could run (poorly but still run) in CPU mode for that 1% of the time helps the choice.
You need at least minimal i7 13th Gen CPU and RTX 3060 , anything slower and your scanning experience will be reduced to Full field only.
The Laser requires fast CPU or RTX 3060 and up
Other graphic cards like AMD are not supported yet .
The software also requires RTX to generate 3DGS model .
You will be able to use a good android phone with Full Field, Hybrid and VCSEL
You will be able to use Revo Mirror and PC power to scan in larger distance .
Remember the software is CPU based so if you want faster processing , get good CPU , my i9 14th Gen CPU scan as fast in. Laser mode as RTX 406O GPU meaning optional speed.
And the last thing is RAM ,big you can don’t skip it , minimal 32 GB recommended 64 GB and up
So wait, are you telling me that I should basically cancel my POP 4 order because only half of its functions will work with my system because I don’t have an nVidia POS GPU?
I did not told you anything , it was not answer to your question
Your CPU is as fast as i9 14th Gen, you will be able to use laser mode without issues or any other modes for that matter .
So you concluded it the wrong way.
Your system is as powerful as mine so you will not have any issues.
But you will not be able to produce 3DGS models because it require CUDA cores
However the Dev. Team is working for future implementation of AMD graphic cards but when exactly it will happen I don’t know .
