Hello All,
I have a couple of Revopoint 3D scanners, including the original model RANGE scanner.
I have been intending to build a “Rig” for making scanning of people more accurate and predictable. I decided to build the rig using a cheap camera boom that I use in my Photography projects. This will move the scanner vertically as the person is rotated by a large Revopoint Turntable.
The complicated part is that the scanner has to rotate horizontally to counter the “Arc” of the boom as it rotates up and down.
I used Rhino 3D to design the Rig, based on scans of the Camera Boom.
Working in 3D CAD enabled me to calculate the “Arc”, and therefore the rotation needed for the scanner. I used my 3D printer to maker the rotator for the scanner. The rotator is driven by a short cable automatically as the boom moves up and down.
The boom works extremely well, I will post some results of people scans shortly.
Oh, and you can use ANY scanner withn this boom, I intend to use my MIRACO scanner with this as well. I can balance the rig with counterweights near the handle.
Here are some images of how I worked this out and the finished rig.
