Advice needed on scanning winglet

Hi all
I’m trying to scan a winglet of my motorbike. Free hand and on the 2 axis turntable. Everything I try is a disaster. What would you recommend is the best way?
TIA
Paul

Hi!
You’ll definitely need a mearker mode for that. Means enough markers on and around the object. I see you applied some scanning spray so capturing the surface per se shouldn’t be a problem. Probably 3 scans in different positions needed (“normal”, upside-down anf somewhat vertically ) for enough overlapping areas for merging them in the postprocess.

No need for highest fusing and meshing settings as there aren’t much details.

There are plenty of tutorials. If you still have specific questions, let us know.

Happy scanning🙂

Thank you. I’ll try the marker mode next. I’ll post the results if it’s good. Yes, very low detail model.

I have the miraco plus and all the accessories if that makes any difference to the settings I should try?

Then you should have the magic mat , too. Place the object on it, some more markers on the object , as much you don’t loose tracking. about 6cm distance in between for the start. Put the markers on the object AFTER applying scanning spray.

And check the tutorials, so many useful informations there!

Ok. I’ll use the marker mat also. :+1:
Thanks again.

Hi @tokyopav

As @ivan mentioned, this object doesn’t have many distinct features, so please use some markers to aid in tracking. There is a tutorial video from MIRACO that explains how to scan objects without distinct features, including a section on using markers (starting from 1:50). You can check it out.

Hi tokyopav,

if you want to avoid sticking markers to the winglet you can try it the following way. Use a dark cloth like a towel or similar with irregular patter. Place it on the table but not flat. Leave wrinkles in it. Place the winglet on the cloth and place some things around the winglet like screws or nuts or figurines. But all should be near the color of your winglet. This is important to get good results with even exposure. Then do your scan, turn the winglet and repeat the scan. Delete everything you don’t need and stitch the two scans together.
It will help stitching your scan when you add some bluetack points that are visible on both scans to align them.

Happy scanning!

If anything was unclear or further hints are needed, just reach out.

Cheers for the tip. I have the 3D marker block kit. I think they will do a good job also. ITT try several options to see which way works best. I think a combination of all like one of the training videos shows is a good start.
