3D Scan Marker Chains?

Found perfekt net in a Hotel in Munich

Maybe a bit to big. But self Illuminating!

I found a good case here to store the marker chain, otherwise they tend to get knotted

i was thinking of the same concept, but with nylon thread which can be stretched between two (or more, like a net?) small posts, like a bridge, so that the markers/marker bodies are slightly above the surface, which would make reworking easier. these posts could also be magnetic to be able to place them quickly and easily on metal surfaces. i’m waiting for my delivery of nylon thread to test it.

Did you design the pylons? Are they available for download?

I made chains of different lengths, which is really practical because you can put them on and take them off quickly.

 I did somethin similar, but put the markers on non-sticky resp. only electrostatic sticky "watch protective tape " ( 15mm wide,

Good job Manuel !

Especially for large surfaces, I can really imagine the tape working well! Presumably, each method will have its pros and cons.

I just printed a few stands where I can securely attach the targets, you could probably also use a magnet for this to scan things like car bodies, for example.

The advantage here is that the markers are not lying directly on the surface.

Yes, that was/is exactly my idea, some contraption to place it hovering OVER an object so it is easier to be removed in post processing.:+1::slightly_smiling_face: I will upload my results later on.

The tower caps don’t fit so well for me, so I made a hexagonal tower, then at least one side is towards the scanner. Also with thread for stacking.

As promised before, I’m here to share a quick result of my experiment on DIY net. This test is to scan a side of dryer with Range.

My concept is to use a net with several markers attached, hanged by some magnetic hook, keeping a distance from object to be scanned. The first thing I noticed was that strings are too thin to be captured by Range. I put several markers on the net. Still not worked as I hoped.

After that I also test the global marker feature on Revoscan iOS. Works as expected. The density of markers I test is 30 makers per 0.4㎡, around 75 per square meter.

Then I ripped off those markers and stock on the net and scanned again, to see if the number of markers was the reason of failure. Failed. Since my point is using the net itself as a global marker. I’m not sure if it’s a good way to try net with thicker string. It will make more surface covered.

I also found magnetic scan markers available for sell. Should be much easier removed than stickers.

Those same markers were ripped off and stock on tapes. But the tape itself limits how markers can be place, might cause using much more markers than necessary.

Then I put Tack-It on the surface to see if it can be used as features since it’s much easier to take off. Failed.

Finally I just use what I can grab around the dryer as global marker. And it worked.

My conclusion is that sometimes we might just too focus on specific task like “how can I get rid of markers quickly” before asking “do I really need put on markers?”

Thanks for sharing!

It looks the net method failed because of much less dense marker placement compared those which worked for global marker tracking. Maybe you might place a marker on each intersection and some markers inbetween for irregular pattern. I imagine something like this.

Hi, @ivan. Thanks for suggestion.

This time I tried magnetic markers.

The main advantage of magnetic markers is not only they are removable, but also can be adjusted easily.

Maybe I’ll give it a try next time.

Great!

Could you share a Screenshot from the net of taobao? I cannot Open the Link.
Thanks BR

Hi @modoneer

Please do not post links to websites that requires log in or are in languages other that the forum for security reason.
You can post your photos and screenshots direct here .

The system flagged the link as scam so I have to remove it from your post to keep the rest of the post .

Thank you

Sorry.

Here is the screenshot of the magnetic net mentioned before.
