MY scanner has arrived, but not my new laptop,
I was thinking that the user experience would be much better if I could see the laptop display and the target object area with the same glasses on to save time and make for a better experience.
Has anyone tried this?
Does anyone have any suggestions so I do not have to carry a laptop cable and the scanner around the objects?
Thanks Troy
Yes I tried AR glasses with MetroX and other scanners , it was lots of fun but you still are wired to the laptop with a MetroX cable because you can’t use it wirelessly so it change nothing .
I used this one , you can see the screen and the scanned object in front at the same time when using semi transparent settings .
The only difference here is that you don’t need to hold the laptop in your hand when scanning bigger objects
You can also cast the laptop screen to your phone or tablet it works great also
But the movements will be limited to the cable length , unless you go with a good USB cable extension to move more away from your laptop.
MetroX needs all the laptop and GPU acceleration power directly while scanning so for now the only solution is USB cable.
Since Laser mode is a time consuming scanning method I recommend you scanning your big objects in sections and moving around one by one to preserve the accuracy and quality of your scans.
For me it works gread with my Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop.
Currently I’m using a 4m high quality USB 3 extension without any problems.
Thats pretty interesting to me, I have been using a phone strapped to my arm to see my desktop for years, and I was looking into an AR glasses solution instead for a while, but did not have the opportunity to try if it works well and I did not want spend the big bucks for one of these based on a guess.
Would you be kind to share your experience with the ar glass solution a bit more?
Nothing much to share as the marketing shared already and the videos .
However to use with Windows I would recommend to get the XREAL Beam as it will unlock all the option where only glasses have a very small amount of options
I don’t say you have to go with the same glasses , but the experience is very cool . You can have huge screen in front of you and completely transparent or 30% or full opaque . You can change the screen sizes with the Beam , you can make the screen moving following your head or you can just place it on a side and use as virtual desktop like you have Monitor next to you , and that is my preferred option . Because you can monitor side by side your scanning area and the software so pretty cool.
You need moment to get adjust to it , the resolution is great and the brightness. One of the best around
I do have prescription glasses but did not needed when using it . However if you do there is additional option for making prescription lenses .
If you use Mac or Windows , check the connection requirements according to your computer system
Remember it only project screen , you have no control over the software on your computer just for visual aspect .
I would suggest you just try it on Amazon , they have $100 off today , don’t forget the BEAM for full functionality ( the only down side ) that you need both and not just the glasses .
I have Xreal Air and use them with my Miraco Plus. I didn’t think about using them with MetroX.
I have the prescription lenses in mine and they are great. I use them with my drone too so I can get in some FPV action while still having awareness of my surroundings.
I have Beam too but don’t use it. You don’t really need it for Windows as there is a head tracking app that Xreal provide that gives you the tracking without the Beam. Beam is useful for headtracking on things like Miraco and Steamdeck where there isn’t a native head tracking app.
If your PC or game console don’t have USB C display ( video output) you can’t connect it directly without Beam or Adapter
XReal Air2 Pro
Functions like Anchor, Follow and Side view are not available without Beam .
