Trackit base station crash

I was scanning a large speaker horn and on the third scan – about 70K frames in – I changed to single line scanning to get some deep recesses and the Trackit base station crashed. Light went out and then rebooted. Obviously the scanner disconnected and I had to wait for it to reboot before RevoTrack picked up the scanner and base station.

It wasn’t a power outage, as it was on the same power strip as the computer. Temperature was not too high (mid 70’s ~24C) and no lights flashed in the room to indicate a brownout or power “blip”.

Has this happened to anyone else or am I the only lucky person? This was the first time for me, but I am wondering if this is something worth opening up a support ticket for.

Hi Bruce

Yes please contact customer@revopoint3d.com

Since that was very unusual behavior .
I wonder if that 70K of frames has to do with it as it could get heavy on the RAM , I would not change the mode while having too many frames , better save it and restart scanning with new mode to be safe and not lose everything .

I hope the project is still removable .

Scan was fine–other than I had just sprayed the inside of the horn with ASUB blue and by the time everything had come back up, a lot of the spray had sublimated. Had to spray it again.

I think, though I cannot remember, that the scan automatically “finished” when the scanner disconnected. And it was not a single scan with 70K frames. Each setup of the horn was about 25K frames. It wasn’t the software or computer that crashed, just the base station.

I think I am gonna wait to see if it happens again before I contact support. It could have just been a freak accident–cosmic radiation or something–so unless I can get it to repeatably crash, support won’t be able to help me.

And for context, this is the part I was trying the single line scanning on. Was pretty impressed it scanned that far into the horn.

Ah ok , I thought it was the whole system
In this case it do safe the steps but sometimes crash can make the project corrupted so I am glad to hear it was just the base itself and the project is ok.

Yes if you experience anything I unusual with the hardware please contact customer@revopoint3d.com since you are still on the warranty and that is serious issue. It can be the AC power supply because that looks like it was and not jokes with it , so please monitor it and do not leave it powered up while not in use .

The scan is very beautifully done Bruce , very clean and not so easy subject to be captured , well done ! I am impressed with your job !

Excellent job !
