The Boat's Random Trackit Post

Starting off with one image of Jack Skellington’s house (~10.5” tall). I’ll have thoughts a bit later.

Very cute , both are scans only one with color data ?

Thanks for sharing !

1 scan just with/without texture. I wanted to show that the features were 99% actual geometry.

I asked because it is actually looking very very good. So making sure it is not the actual object example next to a scan .

Dr. Finklestein’s house from the same collection as Jack’s house.

And a Lionel O-gauge train engine from the early 1940s.

So I will say there’s one thing I totally dislike about Trackit: image capture.

My list of complaints:

  • Only one control: exposure. Not even white balance this time. I have no idea why we can’t get real camera controls. I want to see a real exposure/shutter setting, as well as gain/iso. Not to mention white balance. There should be no reason I can’t put this thing on a tripod and use a 2-minute exposure with 0 gain if I want to. This goes for Revo Metro auto-turntable mode as well.
  • Standard tiny window for image preview. Why not let us expand it so it’s actually possible to check focus?
  • Image capture uses the raw preview point cloud, with all the associated noise and extraneous scan pieces. And it seems to matter, because you can get better results by replacing raw_preview.ply with fuse.ply.
  • There needs to be a process for viewing your captures, as well as deleting them when they’re invariably out of focus or the automatic white balance went nuts. Bonus points for being to prioritize shots so that one super blurry one doesn’t overwhelm the one truly good shot you managed to get.
  • There’s no option to apply the images as vertex color, only texture.

And finally… Revo Track seems unable to texture small scans, say the size of a Warhammer figure.

There is not raw preview point cloud , it does not exist , what you see is just virtual preview of the other he t folder frames , fuse ply already include only color per vertex as editable files and can’t be used to preview anything or reflect changes from project itself .

That need to be probably still added to the firmware , the software itself do not control the camera functions. The firmware is responsible for it .
I was responsible for having actual white balance and exposure in all scanners .

That would be very cool but the software do not use the format we would like to have and for a very specific reason .
I tried advocating for many times already

I will have to address it as well on Monday

I will address it as well , can you please send me link to this project file via PM

My Trackit do not have color option because it was an early prototype so I did not even address anything of it yet as nobody else posted anything .

Thanks for your feedback @TheBoatScans

PSA: Trackit USB cables are included in the current sale if you’re paranoid about the cables breaking and not being able to find replacements. Accessories aren’t on sale as often as scanners are.

I’ve been trying to scan small things for fun. I find the tracker is unnecessary and often counterproductive with very small items that you can just put a few 3D printed marker objects around, not to mention being able to use the turntable.

Speaking of the turntable, why would Revopoint assume I wouldn’t ever want to use the turntable in marker mode and strip that functionality out of the software?

Without a doubt, the Trackit scanner is better than the MetroX scanner in laser mode. I don’t have a Y to test but I’d consider the laser modes of MetroX unusable compared to auto turntable mode. But with the Trackit scanner, the laser scans are pretty good. Not quite auto turntable good, but … good.

Not sure why the fusion point distance setting is limited to .15mm. Here’s a comparison of hacked.08mm and .15mm point distances. Object has a base of 20mmx50mm. RAM usage goes up like crazy (probably would crash with less than 64GB) but I think there’s definitely more information than .15mm can resolve. The sweet spot is probably .10mm, which is coincidentally the limit in the Metro version of the software. Hmm.

I did tested all the lower fusing points and I did liked the 0.10 mm , but it was usable only for a very small objects , or as you said it would blow ul the RAM too quickly .
The slightly grain was also issue that could be not resolved for that reason it went back to 0.15 mm officially .

Auto turntable mode in MetroX uses slightly different technology than Full Field, for that reason it is the best quality wise for details vs smoothness.

MetroX point per second is only 800K , MetroY standard and Trackit have almost double amount for that reason it is faster and produce less errors.

MetroY Pro for me has the best quality so far with its Auto mode killing Mini 2 slightly.
Of course cross mode is also faster than Trackit & MetroY and capture much more points per sec . Very fast frame collection as well .
Now I want an universal Cage & Tracker to go with MeyroY Pro and I would be a very happy camper .

Trackit was not really created for people that scanning small stuff even if it can do it well, the point of Trackit release was to scan big objects with no features to make things easier for those that suffer with markers or can’t place them on the object for any reason , so the sun focus goes to that types of scans .
I was very much surprised in the first testing phase that it could scan indeed so small objects like coins , asI never expected that .

Talking about Turntable , I did scanned my coins and very small objects using the turntable as well , so not sure what you mean by that you can’t use it with Trackit?

I used it in marker mode as well
Here my coin scanned with Trackit and Turntable .

Just that they removed the Accessories menu, so no connected to the turntable for sync or control.

Agree 100% with this. Trackit should have been an accessory. As it is I’m glad I didn’t trade in my MetroX and the MetroY Pro is just a bit too pricey right on the heels of Trackit. Looking forward to see what’s next though.

For real ? I don’t use the last public version , wow not good. It was very usable in marker mode especially for a very fine scans .

I wish it was .. it would be so popular. I hope Revo still consider it in the future. It don’t even need to be as big as the Tracking tracker . Anything but using markers please!

I just reported to the team , the R&D will look into it , it was removed to not confuse users that trying to scan on turntable while using Tracker , you know Common Sense is not always so common . But they could place a note to not use it while using the Tracker and problem would be solved .

I love using the auto turntable while scanning minis or coins with much better predictions so definitely a must have .

To be continued …

Easy enough, grey out the turntable while in track scan mode.

That is a great idea :+1:t3::light_bulb: simple is beautiful!

A note in the Manual would not kill anybody either …in case someone use a different turntable.

Well now 5.7.3 bumps the point distance min to .10mm for parity with Metro.

MetroY standard is the same as Trackit without Tracker so the same algorithms can runs the fusion process. I am glad they finally agreed.

The 0.10 may be a very slightly grainy in early versions I tested but still my favorite compared in how much details it could capture at 0.10 mm vs 0.15 mm when scanning a very small objects.

Looks better as a scan than in real life, honestly.
