So I have been scanning this motorcycle tire- I got excellent results in track scan mode- but I had to merge the two halves later in GeoMagic Wrap and I would sure love to use Multi Position mode so I can put trackers on the tire, and then flip the tire halfway through and keep scanning as one object in RevoTrack.
The flipping halfway through works fine it doesn’t lose tracking, which is brilliant and all.
But half my model comes out super noisey.
Anyone have any tips to avoid this dreaded swiss cheese noise I am seeing?
This was at .25 resolution and took almost 60,000 frames (it is REALLY tough to capture these treads as they get super narrow I have to focus in on each one and move the trackit from all angles to get inside there. I’m not doing anything different compared to when I scanned in TrackScan mode though and I got a totally clean model in that mode (of course only getting half at a time)
It looks like lose and overlapped points on top of the surface , you need to clean it up before meshing it , and use the whole scale for overlapped points ( up and down to detect them all ), some of them can be removed later after meshing as well by selecting isolate points after meshing .
The software usually choice for you the level ( distance), but you can slide it higher and lower if the scan is not completely clean , it helps to clean it better , especial with overlapped point cleaning feature changing the distance helps .
thanks, while that did seem to help a little bit the messed up areas stayed pretty messed up and visibly really noisey and ugly compared to the un-affected areas, which are so smooth and pretty and clear.
do you have any suggestions on how to avoid this when scanning ? going to keep trying
To avoid in the future , make sure the laser brightness and depth exposure is not over exposed , big issues may be micro reflections coming from material surface that is in color contrast , and most important always clean the fused scans before merge .
And of course monitor the scanning process if tok many noises appear lower the laser brightness .
