Texture Assisted Tracking

I would like to propose a scanning mode where the RGB camera information is used to help feature or marker tracking.

It might even be possible to have a texture alone tracking as well (with help of depth cameras).

At least the combination of depth camera feature tracking, IMU and texture would be a better option than without. The technical solution is not revolutionary but rather a combination of 3D transformation and video motion tracking. So there is plenty of good algorithms available. Or have I stumbled on a new research area perhaps?

This feature could also be unique for the Revopoint segment of scanners or even for the whole 3D scan industry?

Hello @Illerian

Thank you for the suggestion. We will relay this to our dev team for evaluation and consideration regarding its implementation. :handshake:

@Revopoint-Jane Is there anything new in this regard? I think it’s a good idea, it should result in really good tracking. The scanner beams (infrared or blue light) sometimes do not detect dark areas, the RGB camera always has an image.

I agree. A Texture Tracking mode or even better combination of severeal Modes would be a big leap forward. And also other scanners have that already implemented.
Miraco would be a good product to start with implementation.
Thanks, BR
