Software Proposal: Auto Detect Overlap

As PUTV stated in some discussions, you often have overlapping points beyond the default settings. According to PUTV you should walk manually through all possible settings to detect an delete OPs.
Why can’t the software do this?

Hi Daniel , the reason for that is that your don’t want to remove too much of the density using automatic stuff even Cloud Compare can strip the point cloud from fine details if set the wrong way by removing all the noise.

I do not like automatic things because sometimes you have an objects that you want to keep one way and not another and an option is nesesery. Some users are not even happy with the cleaning algorithms that Advanced Fusing is using as it removes too much data sometimes when you need it. So the user scene is divided on that subject .

However since you are asking , I can tell you that there is some future option in testing right now that do address the automatic cleaning of overlapped points , it is just in an early development and not enough tests performed yet on my side to be negative or positive about it , so you will have to have a little more for that to happen. I don’t have exactly ETA when it going to be released but it is in the making .

Thanks a lot for the update, PUTV! I was keeping my post short, but - of course you could offer the “automatic” cleaning through all distances by choice. Overlapping points are imho an important issue weh it gets to mesh merged scans.

Sometimes I wish for the one Auto cleaning at once especially with laser scanning it can be problematic to get rid of the points and I have to move out from RS to complete the task what can be annoying in situations. When you have to replace the point cloud in the project to keel color data intact this can be annoying workflow back and forth.

So I get you very well Daniel !

Well we see how well the Auto cleaning perform in the future in various situations and levels of point pollution.
