Revo Scan 6 for MacOs Apple processor (M series) 3DGS support

I just got my POP 4 scanner. I was happy to see a MacOs version of Revo Scan 6. However, it does not support the 3DGS image texturing like the Windows version. That’s really unfortunate since The Metal infrastructure of the Apple Arm processors is great at 3DGS mapping. I could use an external program to do this but again, it’s unfortunate that Revo Scan OBJ exports does not include a folder of images needed by 3DGS software. Anyone knows when 3DGS will be supported on Mac?

Hi @Docavid

I don’t think it will be available until Revopoint support native Apple silicon, they working on it but there is not yet ETA for it

You don’t need to scan to create 3DGS , you can take serial of pictures and produce model on it’s own here is some workflow information if you are interested.

Hi, thanks for your answer. However, just some clarification. Revo Scan 6 is actually running on Apple Silicon but the 3DGS functionalities have not been ported yet since they rely on calls to an Nvidia graphics card. Apple Silicon has its own (Metal) graphics processing that is very good at tasks such as 3DGS. I am aware of other ways to create gaussian splatting but it would be nice to do it directly in Revo Scan, or at least having the possibility to access the images captured by the application in order to process them externally.

Yes I know that , but right now that feature requires CUDA cores same as GPU acceleration so until it is not fully switched to Apple silicon , it will be rather not happen because the dev.ream rather spend their time on the new version instead.

The way the pictures are collected they are not usable outside other software as it don’t support the format . They have different format and the red channel is reversed.

I seriously not see it happen .

Hi, are you officially writing on behalf of Revopoint?

I am sorry to say that what you are saying is BS. MacOS is used by a huge multimedia community and it’s important IMHO for a company like Revopoint to offer the software used by their scanners, to the principal OS used today. If you say is true, this company will lose several customers including me.

Thank you for your feedback, you are not the first suggesting it so it is already added to the list for future improvements .

And I would suggest you change your tone , we don’t behave like this in this community . I will not ask again.

Hi. Just to clearify, yes PUTV actually IS writing on behalf of Revopoint . As a true veteran in the field of 3d scanning she is much qualified for being forum moderator/admin here but she also is internal quality controller for Revopoint’s products and Social Medias Manager (click on here icon for that information). So she has insights on development probably more than any other here. Just to say , she knows what she is saying.

Please keep a respectful tone no matter what subject or who you write to, here. Thanks!

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the heads up. I am sorry if I offended some people here; it was not my intention but PUTV reply surprised and disappointed me a lot, my comment were more aimed at the company’s stand than the person. Just to clarify my own position on the subject, I was chocked by the comments of PUTV to the effect the MacOS would probably not be supporting 3DGS. It’s not that 3DGS is an important feature for me, but I felt the Revopoint does not care about the MacOs (Apple Silicon), and apparently offers the compatibility as a convenience. When I made my pledge on Kickstarter to support the development of the POP 4, I checked the compatibility and was happy to see that my Mac was supported. However, now I start to discover that performance and functionality is not the same on both platforms and that Apple Silicon is probably not leveraged as much as an Intel processor with an Nvidia graphics card. Worst, an spokesperson at Revopoint states that support for Apple Silicon and its Metal graphics engine is apparently not a priority. This is a big let down and I am presently reconsidering my commitment to this brand. I have more than 20 years of experience as a multimedia, video and film producer. In my field we almost only use the Mac platform. I acquired the POP 4 as part of an exploration as a tool for many uses, for example to manufacture props. In conclusion, I wish Revopoint would make a more solid commitment to MacOs than just a convenience.

Hi all, just got the latest version of Revo Scan 6 which includes 3DGS! Wow, that was fast! Thanks for the effort to make the Mac version complete. I did some testing and it looks good (albeit, a bit slow).

Hi @Docavid

It was updated yesterday , you are welcome to share your experience with this new version .

And regarding our early conversation , I can only share information that I am allowed to share on specific time since I am also under NDA and all public sharing of information need to be approved .

So if you are looking for the specific technical information you may ask the technician directly via email and get your answers if approved .

In our community here we mostly focus on the scanning workflow and help in this direction rather than sharing company’s trade secrets.
There is a lot of competitors for that reason it is the way it is .

Is it feasable with an MacBook Pro M1 (without Pro / Max) - so first Gen ARM Macs?

Hi @theFlow
Please check the download page and also requirements system for your scanner .

I am back at work tomorrow

Any news when Revo 6 will be available on Mac App Store so I can load it on my iPad so I can somewhere beyond my office!?

Hi @Hans68 from what I know the RS 6 iOS version will be released in the middle of July , it is not ready yet. Hopefully this weekend .
