Revo Metro V5.8.2 Orthogonal View Bug

Hello, I’m enjoying the new Revo Metro Update the scanning feels nice and snappy, but I have noticed a small bug when editing the scans.

In Perspective View all is good, but when I switch to Orthogonal View the Points in the point clouds are too small which makes it hard to see what you are doing. I don’t have this problem with the older version of the software.

Perspective View:

Orthogonal View:

I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue or if its something I’m missing.

Thank you for your time.

Hi @Jimmanator

Orthogonal camera only changes the focal , it don’t change the points .
I just checked and only the angle changed .

Try to uncheck GPU acceleration rendering under settings, it may be the problem but just guessing .

If the problem still persist please contact customer@revopoint3d.com since I can’t replicate that issue in my computers .

Thanks for checking. It’s helpful to know that it’s not a problem for everyone. I disabled GPU rendering and no change. I’ll keep playing around to see what’s causing it.

The technician may have solution for you in this case .

There’s some sort of automatic point size switch based on density/distance/who-knows-what that I think is new this version, and you just have to be lucky to have a point cloud be the right density at the right camera position to see that it’s happening. I’ll bet that it has no clue what to do with ortho views (kinda like you can’t use the Spacemouse to zoom in ortho mode).

You can see the line where it changes in the above screenshot. It’s dynamic as you move the camera around.

Enough with the arbitrary point size display wackiness. Just give us a setting for it already.

That’s interesting , I can zoom in whatever and not see any change in density of the scan .

I will forward it to R&D to investigate …

It is just a different focal length off the camera , it should not change the preview of the algorithms and how it show off the point cloud in the Open GL … But it is possible there may be some code that was not adjusted .
And as you said , it shows only at a specific point cloud density , maybe I try on some lower point cloud density model and see if there is any difference, since the viewport is programmable how it shows the size of the points.

I am also experiencing this issue. Model is solid up close in perspective view but turns into a hazy cloud that is difficult to see and edit when up close in orthogonal view

Hi @systox

Still in 5.8.3 ?

Yes, confirmed 5.8.3. There are two ways to trigger the bug:

1 - Open project with multiple scans.
2 - Zoom into fused point cloud; observe it stays solid
3 - change to ortho and zoom into cloud, see it turns transparent (it gets worse but this should be fixed too)

4 - stay in ortho mode and switch to another model in the same project

5 - switch back to the first model; Now the cloud is even more transparent and becomes difficult to see even at low zoom levels.

Another way to trigger the bug -
Switch to ortho view on point cloud and then make any isolation cuts. THe model will immediately turn very transparent after the cut.

Hi @systox

It is not a bug , it was just not changed back to tiles by a mistake , and the team is on it already as I reported it .

Thank you

Awesome, thank you.

Here is a sample video of the issue if it helps them (temporary, can’t upload to forum yet):

Thank you @systox

Really appreciate that you took the time to record it , will be very helpful battling the case

If they’re looking at orthogonal view fix the inability to zoom with Spacemouse while they’re at it.

That’s interesting , the zoom ( command key) functions are usually standard on all apps , do SpaceMouse have a different command to trigger the zoom?
I already lost the ability to zoom using my Wacom drawing tablet /pen , if it affect my keypad as well I am not going to be a happy camper . I can’t work using mouse and never did in my whole carrier due to mouse arm condition. Funny but true !

It zooms in perspective view not in orthogonal. Always been that way since they introduced support.

Oh ok that is a different story now ! Thanks I will add it to the bag !

The issues with the Orthogonal Display will be addressed in the next version of the Revo Metro including the SpaceMouse zoom function

wow, that’s excellent support. thank you.

Quick heads up. Issue fixed on stand alone models within the project but has gotten worse on Merged point clouds. Issue is now present in perspective view and orthogonal view of merged cloud. (as of 5.8.4)
