Revo metro requirements

Hi everyone, I bought a “Metro Y Pro” and am waiting for it to arrive in the next few days. In the meantime, I installed “Revo Metro” and I noticed with displeasure that when it checks my computer, it tells me it is low. I have an HP Z8 G4 workstation with two Xeon Gold processors, 64GB of RAM, a Turbo NVMe drive, and a Quadro RTX. It seems impossible to consider it low!

Hi @GMS

The issue here is the Quadro , Revo Metro do not perform well using quadro cards as it is not recommended card , since it lacking the driver features needed to be used while Lasers scanning .

The direct supported cards are from RTX-20 series to RTX -50 series ( no quadro for laser ), in short gaming cards with gaming drivers.

For the viewport it really don’t matter what card are you using , but for the real time scanning it do . For that reason the RTX Quardo cards falling short here in this specific case.

Best option to check the system will be when you connect your Scanner to the software first then perform the system checking .

I connected the scanner and ran the first scans. It works very well even with the Quadro RTX4000. It’s a bit slow in processing, acting as if it weren’t using all 40 available cores, but only a small portion of them. It’s a shame to have a workstation with two 20-core processors and only use a small portion of them. The scanner works great, though, and even I, a beginner, can get excellent results.

The processing has to do with the processor you use , it still not use all the cores and the team is still working on the improvements .

Quadro cards will works as they are used only for real time scanning using laser and nothing else , however they will not provide maximum speed frames while scanning due to its different structure and drivers.

habe gerade den Metro Y pro bekommen. von wo kann ich die software Revo-Metro runterladen?

Hi @Ronny1
You can download it from the forum Download section or better direct on the Revopoint3D.com website under Support/Download

Win

https://download.revopoint3d.com/soft/RevoMetro-5.8.4.208-windows-x86_64.exe

MAC
https://download.revopoint3d.com/soft/RevoMetro-5.8.4.31-mac-x86_64.pkg

It’s incredible, even with an RTX 5060 and 40 REAL cores (dual xeon gold) the software says the computer is poor :frowning:

Hi @GMS

Test it out white your scanner is connected and the settings for GPU acceleration are selected under the settings in the top right corner.

I would take the system tests with a grain of a salt , it showing poor on my PC even with a faster card than recommended and 24GB VRAM and i9 10th Gen CPU and 64GB RAM

Where slower card on my laptop showing excellent… I just don’t take the test literally , most important is how many frames you get using laser mode if you reach 57-60 you are at max capacity .

well, using the 34 laser lines I have about 58fps, both with the quadro rtx and with the geforce rtx5060, I can send the geforce back and keep my beautiful quadro  let’s hope the next software updates can make better use of all the processor cores and also the multiprocessors, the post-scanning process would really become much faster

Hi @GMS

That’s wonderful speed and usually optimal , I never saw anybody reaching more than 60 FPS and I have usually 58 FPS in all my systems with recommended cards .

I guess the Developing team improved the speed on RTX quadro cards as you are the second forum member noticing it lately .

The processing is 100% done using the CPU and Intel CPU right now works much faster , however the team is working on the other processors as well.

Remember your GPU acceleration is used only for the Laser scanning and nothing else since the main core of the software is CPU based.

Forgot to ask , what RTX quadro card you are using ?

I’m using a Quadro RTX 4000 mounted on a HP Z8 G4 workstation with two 20-core xeon gold processors and 64GB ram.

Xeon Gold processors are part of the Intel Xeon Scalable family, intended for data center so not fully yet optimized in Revo Metro same as with AMD, hopefully it will change for better over time.

Thanks for the info , I will make sure to share that info with the team in next meeting.

Xeon processors are widely used not only in data centers but also in professional graphics workstations (like mine), it would be a good thing if Revo Metro could also take advantage of them

It will be definitely but it will take some times , just because they are used in professional workstation don’t make them simpler to adopt to the software , it will need time. But everything slowly improving , the latest update gives Intel CPU the power of RTX 4069 GPU while scanning what is already fantastic improvement eliminating the needs for actual specific GPU acceleration.

For other CPUs that are not yet on that level a proper GPU acceleration graphic card will do the work until future improvement.

Stay tuned !
