I tried to use a Metro Y Pro with another. USB-C cable, and it does not work.
I’ve tried several USB-C cables with different ratings. From 35W and up, and none of them manage to power the device. I can use a USB-C extension with the OEM cable and any power supply, and that works well.
Any other USB-C cable doesn’t work; furthermore, even flipping the OEM cable doesn’t work.
I am trying to use the scanner via wifi, but it doesn’t work with any other cable than the one that came with the mobile kit. I would like to have a longer cable so I can place the powerbank farther away from the scanner.
For use via wifi:
Power Bank + 100w USB-C cable + scanner = Scanner doesn’t power up completely.
I powering my MetroY Pro via a short mobile cable that was included with the scanner mobile kit, I am also using my Thunderbolt 4 100W 40Gbp USB C Cable
connected to my 5V- 3A power bank that I keep in my pocket while scanning since the cable is 6ft/2 m
You should absolutely no problem powering NetroY Pro this way .
Check if the power bank is good enough to use with Metroy Pro .
The original power bank is :
Capacity :3.6 V
5500 maH
Your power bank need to have at least :
5V - 3A output or
9V- 2A output or
12V-1.5 A output
The scanner actually consume 12V at 1.5A/3A at maximum while operating using Laser mode.
Anything below that will not powering MetroY Pro
A lot of people powering Inspire2 or MetroY serie scanners with too low capacity power banks resolution in the scanners not having any WiFi singnal because their scanners are underpowered .
From curiosity I just tested out my older power bank 5V/2A and phone charger cable
I could connect via WiFi without issue , for Full Field of Auto mode it is enough , but for laser mode the power will be not enough and run out very quickly.
If you have issue , please check the cable and try to use your phone charging cable with your power bank and try connecting to WiFi
You did not told me yet what computer you are using , but you can check the WiFi network availability on your Phone , it will show up as MeyroY with numbers …
If nothing else work you will need to contact customer@revopoint3d.com for technical assistance, please include the link to your thread here for references as well .
For reference: I’m using a 65w/20000mah power bank, a thunderbolt 4 cable, Asus P16. i have used the Wireless connection and it works, and it is stable (I have completed long scans via wifi).
Everything I’ll describe next refers only to scanning via wifi with a Metro Y Pro.(no cable connecting the scanner to the computer)
Here is what I have tried that works ok:
Metro Y Mobile Kit + scanner = Works OK
65w power bank + Metro Y Mobile kit short cable + scanner = Works OK
65w power bank + Usb-c extension + Metro Y Mobile kit cable (short) + scanner = Works OK
Here is what I’ve tried that doesn’t work well:
First, I should note what I mean by “Doesn’t work well”; in all the examples below, the scanner powers on, connects to the computer via wifi, and gets connected to the app. The problem is that only the center part of the scanner powers on. The lasers that at the center of the scanner are visible, but the blue LEDs at the ends of the scanner do not light up (See the attached picture).
65w power bank + Thunderbolt 4 cable + scanner = Does not work
Metro Y mobile kit handle/battery + Thunderbolt 4 cable + scanner = Does not work (here I have also tried over 10 different cables with the same result:100w, 240W, USB3.1, USB3.2, Apple USB-C, Charge only cables)
Metro Y mobile kit handle/battery + Metro Y Mobile kit short cable (connected backwards, big plug on the handle, small plug on the scanner) + Scanner = Does not work
You are using yours over wifi, only with your power bank, the cable you liked, and the scanner. no other connection to the computer.
If so, then I wonder why mine doesn’t work unless I’m using the short cable.
I have a small 20w power bank on hand. I’ll try that tomorrow.
Ok ,now I know what you mean , guess what ? The LED fill lights don’t works either when running on power bank on my side .
They are not really that important , more for scanning colorful objects like reddish or orange helping capture to hard the scan surfaces . But they do not have any scanning functions . Just color lights .
Well I have to talk to the team about it and see what they find out and why . Maybe it is the way it works on battery , we will find out .
But definitely it is not an issue of the cable or your power bank, since both of my scanners do exactly the same after checking , and honestly I never even bother with it .
The scanner is no PD (power demand) so plugging to a charger or power bank will only pull 5v.
The scanner needs 2v. The included short cable is chipped to pull 12v. Reason why other cables wont work. Other cables are 5v or PD, but without a PD device, all those cables will only pull 5v.
The power bank need to support 12V 3A and the custom cable need to support it too , as Jermaul mentioned other cables may not works unless you use an extension with the original short mobile cable that have the chip or find the right cable online supporting 12V/3A specifically .
What can indicate that the short cable support probably 5V at 3A
Hey it powering up and connect even with power bank of 5V/2A and 1A output .
The problem is not exactly the powering or not here but the fact that the Blue LED light fill don’t turn on when there is not originam cable with or without extension ,even if it connects proper to the software with WiFi network .
This guy sums it up nicely. https://youtu.be/IgbPgmhb27Q
Generally, it’s a 12v cable, but “non-negotiable” meaning, USB normally communicates the voltage it needs, the metroy doesn’t have that capability to negotiate, just needs 12v, period.
